    Molting in February

I'm not sure if weather is a factor, but on Christmas it was 50 degrees and today is feb 1st and it was close to 50. This is strange for Vermont for sure. It seems like all of my hens molted at different times this year. The one who molted first is finally looking red in the comb again, but who...

    Molting in February

I have a hen who is molting. It's February in Vermont! We do light our coop. She did not molt this fall, but she is only 10 months old so I didn't expect a molt. I did have some late molts this winter but I figured the warm weather was the cause for their confusion. I see no signs for concern...

2 year old buff Orpington hen not laying anymore?

Interesting! I never knew that. I suppose that is a possibility! I hope she can lay an egg every once in a while too! Lol.

2 year old buff Orpington hen not laying anymore?

its July and Pauline hasn't laid an egg since sometime this winter. She seems very healthy but possibly a bit overweight. She gets layer feed and I offer oyster shells. This Spring I thought she was laying again because I caught her in the nest a couple of times but other than those times I...

12 week old buff Orpington or buff rock Pullet or cockerel

Thanks so much everyone! I'm pretty psyched to have 6 pullets! I don't love roosters. At least not with such a small flock.

12 week old buff Orpington or buff rock Pullet or cockerel

here is the one I am pretty sure is a cockerel based on his tail feathers alone but now I'm not so sure since you all say he should have more comb and waddles... We have been calling him prince. Should this be Princess?

Buff Orpington cockerel or pullet. 10 weeks old

What did this end up being? I have a 12 week old with droopy tail feathers like that who I swear is a cockerel but the comb and waddles still are not red.

12 week old buff Orpington or buff rock Pullet or cockerel

It's interesting how large she is. I didn't question her gender until this week when she shot up in size and started getting a red comb. I hope it's a female because I got a cockerel in my group of 6 that I am not sure we will keep.

RP: Black Australorp Pullet or Cockerel?

You are making me feel much better! We have a RR cockerel and I believe he is the one that I hear trying to crow. He is also huge compared to Esther and CLEARLY a roo. I knew it from day 2 with him. He is going to be really pretty. I just hope he stays nice. :-)

RP: Black Australorp Pullet or Cockerel?

Any thoughts on this BA? We call her Esther. Should we be renaming her to Edgar? She is about 9 weeks old. She looks different than the other BA that we have. Her tail is quite high and she walks differently. She also is a strange one. Kind of a loner. Her comb is almost completely black still...
