All three of my beautiful chooks were gone this morning. Door open and feathers everywhere.
They were just three years old, and I’d hand raised them from babies. They were all so sweet- they come to their names and cluck at me for treats.
Recently they survived a massive 60+ year old coral...
I have 3 Australorp girls, about 2-3 years old, getting eggs every other day from each of them (except 1 who is late moulting).
Had them since they were a couple weeks old, and they're all real sweet. Usually they're up and about between 4-5am every morning, and they'll go to bed around 5-6...
Thanks :)
Someone told me something was wrong with my girls because they didn't lay in the morning- I shook it off because they're all happy, healthy girls.
I've just realised that I've got a security camera pointed straight at my chicken coop (only took me three years of staring down at the footage to realise that!) and on having a flick through my footage, I've seen some really... odd behaviour.
My girls are in a predator proof 2mx2m run as well...
*update
The day after I found this I found nothing like it ever again.
I had them in the laundry for a while as the coop had been flooded in the rain- all poop was fine, save one that was runny.
Never did figure it out- no mites, and no more signs that it was worms.
Might have been maggots or...
What are they? Are they harmful? What can I do to prevent them?
I found them whilst cleaning out chicken poop today.
All chickens are fine and all still laying eggs.
Noticed this on one hen.
24 week old Australorp. Not yet laying.
Raised bump. Two noticeable ones.
Top of comb seems to be chalky white- appears flakey.
I cannot for the life of me catch this one hen- and it stresses her greatly to do so and would rather (for both our sakes) not have to unless...
First egg today! So happy.
Was jumping up and down when I saw it.
And here's the problem- it wasn't in the coop. It was in the corner of their run (and under the coop- had to crawl my way to it.
Yesterday I had a hunch, so I removed the boards blocking off the nest boxes (as they had taken to...
All of chicken #2 'Omellete' again.
Approx 24 weeks.
Still no crowing...
Actually, I've been hearing what appear to be the 'egg song', but no eggs as of yet *sigh*
It is fixed up so they can't knock it- I know one hen in particular seems to enjoy 'digging' through it with her beak but they all seem to pick it up off the ground- I can't find any trace of it in the morning.
It's beach-shell grit, it's supposed to be a mix of soluble and insoluble grit
