I had some hatch Thursday and my last one finished on Saturday. I don't think I would want to leave all my chicks in there until then.
I removed the chicks as they seemed dry to my fancy brooder pen (cardboard box with light). They're all doing very well.
yinepu,
Thanks for the link and suggestion of shelving liner. I immediately switched to a towel for the flooring. I also wrapped tape around the chicks legs because both of them were going out quite from in opposite directions.
KatGold,
The type of cooling system you're referring to is what we call Evaporative Cooling or also know as a Swamp Cooler. We don't have ours hooked up yet this year but depending if its our monsoon season, it can cause a lot of humidity.
Thanks for the input.
Well, I just had to update everybody since you were all so helpful!
The hydrometer (which I never checked to see if it was accurate) showed 30-40% all during hatch. I couldn't get it any lower. But I have not had ANY problems so far.
Six have hatched and there are 4 to go and they've all...
I, too, am on my first hatch. 6 have hatched and we still have 4 to go -- and those 4 have all pipped. So exciting! The eggs came from my own chickens.
The chick is out!! It does not look like there is any fluid on it, as a matter of fact there is one small piece of shell stuck to it.
It was an amazing moment. The kids were all getting into it, "Push, push!"
Several more have pipped. So, hopefully more to come.
It pipped last night about 9:30 and has not made the hole any bigger that I can tell. But, it is still moving, so I know it's alive. Shouldn't it be enlarging the hole by now?
deerman,
What's a LG incubator?
Should I check the air cell at this point when they are starting to pip? Where do you get an accurite (Hygrometer, I'm assuming?) ?
I have one that pipped about 12 hours ago but it hasn't done anything else. I see the egg moving so I know it's still alive. Is there anything I need to watch for?
