Hello all!
I am really stumped with what to do with one of my chickens, who, incidentally, is/was one of my favorites. Some background, I live in an urban neighborhood and have a very very large yard with a 6 foot privacy fence all around. I have a flock of 9 hens that free range all day. I...
I got the run finished this weekend. I still have to put trim and window covers on the coop and finish painting it, but the run is done! My girl Dotty is in the pictures checking it out. I have 4 5-month old hens that free range my yard and I have 7 2-month old babies that were in my dining room...
I use self locking gate latches secured with a carabiner on all my doors. The only thing to look out for would be the door closing behind you and having no one to let you out.
So, I ordered 8 chicks. 1 died. I know what breed 3 of them are so you'll see them in the background of the pictures, but I'm not showing them here. The other four I'm not sure of.
The 5 that I ordered, but don't know who is what (with one left over because of the lost chick) are: 2 Easter...
They all came from mypetchicken.com. So now I'm confused about what they actually sent me. Because I ordered two EE and those two were the only two that looked alike as babies. I did order a speckled sussex, but lost one of my chicks and thought the one I lost was my SS.... So, where's my other...
This is my Betty. She's my favorite of this bunch so I'm hoping like heck she isn't a roo because I can't have roo's. She's/he's a 6 week old EE. Her comb just started getting color yesterday and I noticed the start of wattles... I'm sure she's a roo, but I'm just checking and hoping (with my...
The coop is still a work in progress... Here are the latest pictures.
I built two pull out poop drawers. The roosts are right above the drawers. I've filled the drawers with sweet PDZ and the boards on the ends are attached by a click connector so I can just pull on the board and remove it...
It looks like your latch is a self locking gate latch. If it is, be aware you could lock yourself in the coop. I locked myself in my shed this morning and it was awful. Fortunately I had my phone and could call someone to let me out.
Got more done on the coop. There's still a long way to go, but loving the progress.
This is the east side. On the left is a storage area on the bottom with the roost on the top. On the right will be a removable shelf with the nests under it. The nests will be in the inside and removable. The...
I started building my coop about 3 weeks ago. I've only had two good weekends of progress due to bad weather and life. This is my first time owning chickens so I did many weeks worth of research and planning. I designed the coop myself and am building it by myself. The coop will be 5'x8' and the...
