Pinless Peepers won't stay on! She kicks it off & shakes it off.

I know this is an old thread, but there aren't any more follow-up solutions to the the problem stated that I haven't tried already, and I'm having the same issue with my BR right now. I bought my pinless peepers and tool off of Ebay. The tool seems to work fine, but the pinless peeper isn't...

    Bay Area BYCers!

We've not had any child younger than 6 visit since the roo started crowing. All latches are well out of reach of a normal-sized toddler, and all latches are also closed with locking carabiners at all times except when someone is in the run or coop. The doors to the run and coop are actually a...

    Bay Area BYCers!

Sigh. I was afraid this would be the common opinion. He isn't really super-aggressive - my 4 y.o. daughter scares him and he runs away from her  - but I am starting to see a change from the snuggly chick that he was to a chicken that doesn't like to be handled as much anymore. We do bop him...

    Bay Area BYCers!

Thanks! I'm trying to make one of my own, first, but if it doesn't work, I'll keep you in mind. I just couldn't bring myself to pay $14 for something that looks like I could make myself. I'm hoping it works... There are other factors that make me wonder if our rooster is worth keeping, though...

    Bay Area BYCers!

Hi from a newbie in Santa Clara!:frow I'm excited to see there are a bunch of people from my area here! My daughter had been asking for a pet, but we are all very allergic to fur (unfortunately, since we all love dogs and cats!), so I thought outdoor feathers would be okay. We are now proud...

Automatic (chicken controlled) coop door DIY

I'm in the planning stages for this type of door, but just thought of a question. Do you adjust the weight so that all the chickens are roosting before the door closes, or do you assume that some will roost and some won't? What happens if all of the chickens are not in the coop, but there are...

Where do u buy your DE? How much does it cost?

I just bought a 40 lb. bag from TSC for $20 in Gilroy, CA. It had the calcium added in and stated on the bag that it was food grade. Also, the woman stocking the shelves there said she feeds it to her animals and recommended using it over Sweet PDZ for odor control.

Automatic (chicken controlled) coop door DIY

Very cool idea! It's something that an electrically- challenged person like me could attempt. As for smoothing the movement of the door, I was planning on using drawer rollers for my door (the metal part that helps a kitchen cabinet drawer pull out smoothly). I salvaged them from some kitchen...

    First pallet coop?!

Nice pallet coops! I'm working with pallets and reclaimed wood and other supplies, too. I can't afford to buy all new things, and it's been eye-opening how much stuff is floating around if you make an effort to grab it (lots of checking on craigslist for me). I also found a Habitat For Humanity...

5 week ol chicks doing the dust bath?

Noob here, too. What kind of sand do you use? I only have playground sand and the kind of sand you put under pavers. Is one of those good, or do I need to have a finer sand?

    The sleeping chick pics thread!

Complete newbie here! This is actually quite a useful thread. I get my very first batch of chicks in 2 weeks, and I would definitely have freaked out if I saw my chicks looking like some of these pictures! :P
