Are those feeds marketed for chicken or game birds, btw? (Want to make sure if I ask my store to order something I know all the specifics.) Thanks for all your help!

So, Amiga, to do things your way (which seems smart), I would need oyster shells, cat kibble (which I have, for kitty), and a basic feed. If you don't mind, what is the basic feed your'e using?

My new ducks are 3 months old. I am wondering when to begin feeding the girls a laying diet, and for how long, and, since, they are housed with a male duck, how do I offer the appropriate food to both? My local store will probably be willing to order an appropriate feed for me if it is carried...
Just curious-How can you tell a white Ancona from a Pekin? I have 3 ducks that I got as yellow ducklings this late March and they grew into 2 white, 1 white with a few black spots, but their bills are yellowier, not as orange, as my Pekin and they are bigger and heavier. Wondering for some time...
Well, I started yesterday free ranging the newer ducks in our bigger yard, away from the older ones and they seem very happy. It's a bit more work relocating them in the morning and at night, but so far peace prevails and the smell is way down!
Thanks for the good advice! We think maybe we'll let the new ducks free range in our larger yard during the day to spread out the mess. We don't let Aflac and Q-Tip because Aflac bites my poor dog. But these guys played with him when they were teensers, so I think they won't be aggressive-They...
That's what my husband said! You're probably right. I suppose the sticky thing is he's my favorite, despite being a meanie. He likes me the most, is the friendliest and is so spirited he thinks he can walk into my kitchen through the back door and bite my dog. I guess I'm not making him sound...
Thanks, Nettie. I appreciate your experience and I hope you're right that it will work out. The thing is this is your strategy is exactly what I've done. They were visible to one another 3 weeks before I ever allowed them in the same space. They can see one another now! The other funny thing is...
Hi all!
I have had 2 male ducks (a Pekin, Aflac and a crested white, Q-Tip) that get along famously for the last year. This spring break, we got 3 Pekin (or Pekin cross) ducklings and raised them with the idea of hopefully having females who would lay eggs for us. It turned out we have 2...
Interesting! He looks just like an Ancona with very few spots (just 3 or 4)...I know the feed store got the bunch from Privett Hatchery...I don't remember them even listing Anconasas available, but I wonder...I remember Swedish, Cayugas, Pekins, Buffs...but couldn't swear. It's a puzzle...
I'll work on the picture thing. I know males sound raspy, but he's 100 x raspier and quieter than my 2 adult males. I almost wondered if he's part Muscovy, except he really pretty much looks Pekin...What else is white with black spots? Any guesses on the mix, anyone?
My 3 ducklings-who appeared to be Pekins-are almost 8 weeks now and about full grown. The 2 females look and sound like Pekins, but the male has a few small black irregular spots-had them on his baby down and on his adult feathers too-and has almost NO voice-sounds very different from my 2 adult...
