    Looking for identification...

This was supposed to be a buff Orpington but she looks nothing like the other Orpington of same age and has feathered feet. I'm also not convinced it's a hen with some aggressive behavior observed. She's not large, actually a bit smaller than the others, about 6 weeks old. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Extremely large chicks!

Yes!!! They smell horrible! I'll do some research, I wouldn't mind letting them live out whatever time they have, but I do not want any kind of rooster, sigh. Thanks for the input.

    Extremely large chicks!

Geez, how much do I restrict their diets? We're a vegetarian family so I definitely won't be butchering them! I thought the one might be a rooster too. They were supposed to be sexed hens.

    Extremely large chicks!

We have a mixed flock of 9 mature chickens and got 6 chicks that are almost 5 weeks old. This is our first time raising chicks, 2 barred rick, 2 Orpingtons (one with feathered feet so I'm not sure it's an orpington), and 2 golden comets. We were told they were all about the same age...

    Possible wing injury

Thanks for that Isaac, i was definitely wondering about pain management. :(

    Possible wing injury

Thanks so much y'all! She is eating and drinking, just spending more time in the coop away from everyone. I'll try the wrap today...thanks again!

    Possible wing injury

Hey all, i have a Buff Orpington, about 4yrs old, that has had a floppy, low-hanging wing for a week now. I read about Marek's but she has no other symptoms and does not appear to be paralyzed. She can move the wing and seems painful when i manipulate it. At what point should i give in and go to...

    Weather change and behavior

Thanks azygous, although still annoying, good to know I can write some of that off as normal. What do you think about the laying eggs outside the coop? I've read a lot of previous posts about that, but still not sure if its something I should attempt to remedy since I know where she'd laying...

    Weather change and behavior

We had what was hopefully our last snow here in middle TN last week. The hens stay in the coop while there's snow on the ground, still have access to food and water. Each time its gotten warm after the snow, one hen's behavior (3 year old SLW) changes for the worse. She seems agitated...

Brand new to chickens and moving into TN winter!

I so much appreciate the tips and "welcomes" to the neighborhood! I'll definitely do the 2x4 for the roost and keep an eye on the frost bite situation. Thanks everyone!

When can I expect egg production?

We just adopted 4 adult hens who were laying consistently at their previous home. Though they've adjusted really well, I expected a week or so to pass without eggs due to the stress of moving, etc. Its also moving into winter, temperature has dropped pretty dramatically in the past few days...

Brand new to chickens and moving into TN winter!

Thanks TaraBella, the humidity gauge is a great idea, and we can definitely widen the gaps. What numbers/levels should I be looking for on the humidity gauge? Good to know about their breed, their first family just had them as pets for their kids, not really into the details of chicken...

Brand new to chickens and moving into TN winter!

Hi all! This site has already been an extremely helpful resource after getting our chickens this past weekend. We have adopted 4 girls, 2 buff Opringtons and two black and whites with flat, cushion combs (not sure of the breed), all about 2-3 years old. There are plans to build a bigger...
