Thank you for your response. I did take her to the vet today and she indeed has egg yolk peritonitis (sp?). Things do not look so well for my sweet hen. :( We are giving antibiotics and will give a hormone implant under the skin tomorrow to stop her egg laying that would only compound the problem.
My 1 1/2 year-old hen has been walking around with her tail down. As she was standing up in the yard, yellow, runny yolk poured out of her vent. What is going on?? Any suggestions? Does this mean she is egg bound?
Thanks everyone for your quick replies! She is unfortunately one that is at the low-end of the pecking order, so she does get pecked quite a bit. However, she has been lucky in that no one has made that area bleed! We did a check of the coop and birds and we have no sign of mites so...
My Rhode Island Red has had an area on her wing that has been without feathers with red, irrited skin for MONTHS. Feathers look like they want to grow but are stuck/ingrown. Any ideas? It looks painful. [/IMG]
