My neighbors chickens are constantly in my yard ....

Not exactly the same problem as the original poster but we just bought our home in Feb/Mar of 2019. The first day we were moving in, my oldest daughter who was over to help us unpack got attacked by the neighbors dog. Wasn't anything serious as she was in jeans and the dog more or less snapped...

    Laying box problems

Normally during the summer months I clean it and the coop out about once a month. Don't always remove the bottom panels though. Sometimes I just scoop out the bedding and such with a small garden trowel or just a gloved hand. During the winter months, I only clean out the coop a couple of...

    Laying box problems

Now that I think about it, I could possibly go front to back with the dowel or a 1x2 rather than length wise. That would also make it a lot easier to remove and clean it out. The nesting box is attached to one of the walls of the coop and I have an access door that I use to check for eggs...

    Laying box problems

Yes floors are 6 individual pieces. They are maybe 8"x 8" with flared up sides at about a 30 degree angle or so. I would have to go out and look but as I recall they do probably rest on the perch bars for the inside walls. The outer walls have a small angle press welded or something of the sort.

    Laying box problems

I use the Brower 406B 6-Hole Poultry Nest and for the most part love it. I have it for 2 years now and it has held up wonderfully. My only complaint for it is that the removable panels in the bottom of each box always fall out from the upper three boxes. I have yet to be out there when it...

Winder Deep Freeze - Frozen Water - Can they survive 24 hours with no water?

I can second this. I am often up at all hours of the night (currently posting this at 4:30 AM) and my rooster likes to talk all night long. I wonder sometimes if that guy ever sleeps

    Surprise Eggs in the Winter

We have an outdoor light that is attached to the house that shines out over that part of the yard. It was there before the chickens so we didn't put it up for them. I wonder if that is affecting their laying habits perhaps?

    Some chicken run questions

Thanks, we have lots of places around here that sells fresh mulch. May even be able to get it at our farmers co-op. I had thought about mulch but wasn't sure if it would make a bigger mess or not. Might give it a try. Thanks on the avatar lol. The Navy tried to get me to go nuke. I even...

Is anyone else having problems with Purina crumble?

Haven't ever had this problem myself but I primarily use the local brand out our local co-op. I support the co-op as much as possible. When I have to pick up a bag from TSC i tend to get the dumor layer feed and haven't run into any problems with it either. I understand the difficulties in...

Oh forgot to add to #6 and maybe one of the more important details. We also have an adorable female beagle named Annie and a male boxer named Turbo. Annie loves the chickens. She will get in the run with them when we are there and just hang out with them. The chicks seem to have taken well...

    Surprise Eggs in the Winter

I am new here and only in my first year with chickens but our chickens have continued to lay all year. They are spring 2018 chicks. We still get our normal 5-7 eggs daily and it has not stopped. Everything I had read and from my daughters experience who had chickens for several years, I...

    Some chicken run questions

I have a 16ft long by 8ft wide and 7ft high fully enclosed run for my chickens. There is also a section that goes under the roost itself that is about 6ft deep and 18in high. We have 7 hens and a rooster that use this. The problem I am running into is with the ground of the run itself...

Winder Deep Freeze - Frozen Water - Can they survive 24 hours with no water?

Hey folks, I am new here (first post) and was about to post the same exact thing. Like the OP, I live in TN but a bit further east in the mountains. It hit around single digits last night and when I went to check on my girls their water was frozen. I use a 2 gallon square bucket I got off of...
