    Any hope for this rooster?

Thanks for confirming. I will probably put him in a pot this weekend. He took the rest of my patience this afternoon, after making this thread.

    Any hope for this rooster?

Yea, I was thinking the same.... I figured the hens would let me know. And they don't seem terribly keen on him. They don't go after him in any way, but they seem to just tolerate him. They definitely resist his attempts to mate quite a bit. He is sometimes "successful", but he has to literally...

    Any hope for this rooster?

Yea, that's what I'm thinking. When I acquired this rooster, I wasn't sure if I would get chicks this spring....So I decided to try integrating a new "leader". But he's acting more like a mean hen to the hens and a jerk to us.

    Any hope for this rooster?

Yea, I think that's where I'm at. I'm trying to be patient, was hoping maybe he'd get his poop in a group. I'm afraid I'll end up going through multiple roosters trying to find a "good" one. But I have some chicks growing right now and I'm certain to end up with a few cockerels, so maybe I'll...

    Any hope for this rooster?

Yea, previously I thought he was just nervous and needed some time to settle in. But I don't trust him which makes me want to say goodbye. My priorities for the rooster are just to help with predator avoidance and keep the flock calm. My last rooster was excellent at this. He also never once...

    Any hope for this rooster?

I have a rooster who's been in with my hens for about 3-4 weeks now. I posted a little while back about him attacking me and my son. Although it's gotten better, he will still come at us from time to time. I've been observing him with the hens and he does no tidbitting, "dances" very seldom...

    Free ranging question…

Same here.... people always ask what I do to the eggs! I insist its because they free-range.

Need help figuring out cause of death

Yea, sounds like it will take at least a week to get the results back. So hoping it doesn't start afflicting other flock members before I figure out the cause.

Need help figuring out cause of death

I plan to do that. I've got her bag and the form filled out. Sending her today. Figured I'd see if anyone had similar experiences... just an odd scenario.

    Rooster with young chicks

The hens are more likely to pick on the new birds than the rooster. The rooster will likely welcome them happily... while the hens will see them as "intruders" so they will work to establish their dominance in the flock. It's nothing to be overly concerned about, just something chickens do...

    Rooster with young chicks

    I agree.

    Rooster with young chicks

You can integrate them fully. I've integrated 8-9 week old pullets with a rooster and adult hens before with no issue. He will eventually mate them, but probably not right away. I can't remember the timeline when we did ours, but I don't recall any issues in the regard.

    Chicken flock attacked

Yay! Happy to hear it. I had a fox attack once, and hours later found a bird who escaped the fenced in pasture and hid in the tool shed. I found her in there and she was so stoic I almost didn't notice her. As for your integration. I would proceed as you would normally with integrating. Let...

Need help figuring out cause of death

Easter egger, approximately 2 years old. A couple days ago I noticed her open mouth breathing and kind of panting. I decided to separate her. Next day, she wasn't very active, tail down and in a bit of a penguin stance. Open mouth breathing and panting was intermittent. Her belly was distended...
