This is my first attempt at hatching bobwhite quail. They have begun to hatch but I am having almost 100% mortality rate. The chicks are coming out of the eggs just fine. They are not deformed. They are a bit late ( 1 day ). They live for a few hours after they hatch and then die. I have...
This morning I had my 6 guinea eggs hatch. They are all still in the incubator. 4 of them are doing great. They are drying and starting to get up on their legs and move around the incubator. The other 2 do not look well at all. They do not seem to have any control of their muscles. They...
They all hatched around 8 - 10 AM today. Like I said the 4 are acting how I would expect. They are wobbly but now they are starting to run around the incubator. The other 2 are quite alive but look like bloated bodies washed up on the beach. They can not even hold their heads up. I will...

Is there such a thing? The reason I ask is I have a bird who is now 5 1/2 months old. During the whole time it was growing up I swore it was a hen, and not just because when I bought this batch of birds I bought nothing but females. This week, the bird has begun to look much more like a roo...

Question 1: How long should I leave the hatched chicks in there?
Question 2: Will having them move the unhatched eggs cause any...
Thanks for all the info. The mystery has been solved. It is in fact a duck egg. I saw her sitting in a pet carrier I set up with some wood shavings this morning. When she left the box sure enough one of those eggs was in there!
Thanks again!
That is always a possibility, but there was not a 22 hr. period between the two eggs. She would have done it quick. And there was a noticeable difference in the egg color.
I guess I will see if I have 2 brown again this afternoon I am going to go with the light color are the ducks.
Well I ate a lot of these eggs and I can not say I really noticed any difference in the "texture" or flavor. And I can not say I really noticed any sort of difference in the feel either.
Now I am a total newbie when it comes to raising poultry so maybe I just not seeing the difference. But...
I got home from work last night and I went to the coop to collect the eggs. I was hoping to have 3 nice eggs. 1 green from the Americana, one brown from the RIR and one cream colored from my mutt RIR. They are all about 5 months old now and they started laying this week.
Well in the nest box...
