My young hens were kind of laying eggs here and there, so to encourage them to lay in the nest box, I put two ceramic decoy eggs in there. The next morning they were gone. GONE gone, like where did they go? Would the chickens have booted them out (buy why wouldn't I find them) or did a skunk...
Hi! I got this girl as a chick, sold as an Ameraucana. I am suspecting she is actually an Easter Egger. I don't really care... I will love her either way... but I'm curious what you all think?
I just posted this in the ID thread, but will post it here now, since y'all are Ameraucana aficionados (and hope to delete the other thread). She is 3 weeks old. Ameraucana?
She is extremely skittish and shy. Not laying, maybe because of the cold and being lonely. I think she's pretty clearly an Ameraucana. I have a couple of people interested in taking her and I hope she fits into a flock.
I got a heating plate from Rentacoop.com (via Amazon). It doesn't have adjustable temps. The bottom ceiling is too hot to keep my fingers there for more than a few secs. Meanwhile, I see other posts from people saying their heating plates are barely warm underneath. I'm nervous about mine...
I have the RentaCoop heating plate. My chickies figured it out and were under it last night. Tonight I felt the underside and would not be able to hold my hand on there without being burned. Worried me a bit...
I got one from RentaCoop that has a pyramid top they can't roost on. My question is how to get them to go under the plate? They were used to the heat lamp, which I've removed. Will they figure out the heating plate on their own?
My chickens (Lilly, Lucy, Cindy and Annie) were recently killed by my neighbor's dog, that broke through the fence. He offered to "pay for them," but how do you pay somebody back for the loss of members of their family? Anyway, I just got four new chicks who are in a brooder in my house.
And...
