I want to raise more chickens but none of my hens have ever gone broody. Can I choose one of mine to make it go broody?

I want to raise more chicks. I have never had a hen go broody in the four yrs that I have been raising chickens. I read that you can make one of your chickens go broody. Which one of my chickens would be a better mom: Americauna, Black sex link, Brown Leg horn, Dominique. Thank you!

How to feed chickens without buying feed

I know this is an old thread, but I am wondering if you found success with restaurant scraps? I asked our local pizza restaurant and they are very excited to start saving pizza and salad for me. Once they got their workers on board, which was finally yesterday, they saved me 9lbs of food in one...

Getting Olive Easter Eggers and Americaunas

We have three americaunas right now. One lays rose colored eggs, one lays smallish blue eggs and her identical sister lays sandy colored eggs. We were told to choose the darkest americauna to get darker blue eggs and only one had blue eggs. Good luck!

    All beetles, no mealworms. WHY?

I bought meal worms in January maybe. All my worms have turned to pupa and most of those pupa are now beetles. I can't see any babies yet but I did take all the beetles and moved the bedding to another bin so in case there are eggs, they can't eat them. We are concerned that maybe all our...

Wool Hen for day old chicks!

Sorry, I just saw this! YES! Every night we just made sure they were all tucked inside the wool hen. They wanted to pop out but once we got all of them in, they would stay in there until morning. It was nice and toasty in there. It was an expensive irish sweater 30 yrs ago, so it made a toasty...

My Mealworm Pupa Keep Dying 100% of the Time

I was separating the pupa because I read that I should separate them. After I separate them, all the pupa seem to stop moving. Are they dead or do they just not move after awhile as they get ready to be a beetle? About 1/3 of my mealworms have turned into pupa....so that means 1/3 will die...

chicken eating plastic! will they live?????

Ear plug saga..We didn't want to alarm our dog/chicken sitter, so we didn't tell her about the ear plug. When we can back after 10 days, all the chickens were happy and healthy, so the plug must have passed with through with a little tickle.
