Gosh, I was in exactly your shoes a year ago! I was contemplating a dozen meat birds. I do not have the area to tractor them. My neighbor used to raise quail and gave me a 6'x8' pen that was attached to his garage. I converted that into a coup / pen for my meat birds. I came to the...
In my opinion nothing beats a nice crispy charred skin smothered in BBQ sauce on a hot summer night!
I've also got nothing against a boneless skinless chicken either. Purely personal preference.
I have not found a 3rd party bag that works anywhere near as good as the FoodSaver bags themselves. I've given up trying to find a replacement and just buy FoodSaver bags in bulk at my local Costco. Of course, I'm only packing 30-40 birds once a year, so the cost has not been a big issue.
I just finished processing my 24 CX. I also vacuum sealed them. We let them chill in ice water for a couple of hours. Then we vacuum sealed them and put them in the fridge. 36 hours later I moved them to the freezer. The one we ate 36 hours after processing was AWESOME! Very tender and...

Are you raising Cornish X? 8 weeks should be plenty for Cornish X. If you are raising a dual purpose bird, I believe you'll need to let them go 18 weeks or so. Processing photo's are fine, if you are concerned you can preface your topic title with "Graphic Photos".

I did let them rest for 24hrs before putting them in the freezer. I ate one at that time and it was excellent! Very tender and juicy. I believe they will also get some "rest time" when they thaw.

This was my first time raising chickens. I started them in a plywood brooder, 4'x6'x2' with a center divider, so they were in a 4'x3' for the first week. Then they got to use the entire 4'x6' area for the next 2 weeks. At 3 weeks old, they went outside to a 6'x8' pen attached to my...

Yes, there were straight run. I bought 25 from my local Agway under the name White Cornish Giants. I only lost the one due to an accident where it was hit in the head with a feeder
I went in together with my cousin on processing and he set the date. So I got 7 weeks and he got 8...
Yesterday was the day my 24 CX went to Freezer Camp. They were processed and vacuum sealed and are resting in the fridge right now, headed for the freezer later tonight. One has been set aside for the smoker this afternoon, beer can chicken. This was my first batch of chickens and I'll...
Thank you Katy! I have my new FoodSaver vacuum sealer and am going to test it out on some bear meat. Local farmer shot a small bear ripping apart his chicken coop. Bear was picking up a chicken, biting the head off, and moving on to the next one. I buddy of mine is a police officer and ended...
Let me point everyone in the correct direction. There is a farmer in Alabama who is abusing this system. How do I know this. Well the guy who used to work for him for 10 years is now working for my wife. According to him this particular farmer is abusing the system by slaughtering his broilers...
Has anyone successfully vacuum sealed a whole 5-7lb CX using a FoodSaver? Will the 11" wide bags hold a bird that size? I'm about to purchase a FoodSaver and cannot find anything larger than the 11" wide rolls.
I have 24 CX that are 5 weeks. My processing date is at 7 weeks. Am I really missing out on a lot of growth by not letting them go 8+ weeks? I have been feeding 12 on 12 off since week 3. Should I bump that up to full feed if I process at 7 weeks?
