I guess I'm wondering if the eggs are a result of CW hens to some other type of rooster like a California Grey or CWxCW, I would assume CWxCW, do you know if the California White's breed true? If I breed them back together will I get some CWs and some that look more like CG? Somebody else has...
I attempted to hatch some TJ's eggs a few years ago and managed one out of a dozen which of course turned out to be a roo. This time, I started with 35 (they were six days old) and 17 just hatched, here's what I noticed:
They went in with seven eggs from my backyard hens and the TJ's eggs...
The majority of sites offer that free of charge with the standard forum and charge for things like posting in the classifieds and so on though most are able to make what they need from advertising which is fine with me. I am a member on Audiokarma and have no troubles paying their $20 a year...
Ahhhh, so I have to pay $60 a year to have 100 posts per page? Well, I guess BYC has gotten too big for it's britches or something, time for me to find a new chicken forum. I wish sites would let you know what they intend to do before investing the time into making them big enough to be able...
I asked a simple question on here and got a response of:
"This issue has been addressed many times as a GFM PPM feature."
I am thankful for the response I think, even more so if it addresses the issue but I have no clue what GFM or PPM are or mean :/ Can anybody translate this into layman's...
Great job on a first hatch, it takes some time to perfect and you couldn't have expected to do any better! Here are my suggestions:
1) Make sure fan is blowing up with about an inch and a half of space at the top.
2) Make sure you aren't running it with more than 5 (6 at the most) volts...
I have looked the site over twice to see how I can go back to 100 replies per page, the site is unusable with 10 per page. Okay, slight over statement but seriously, it sucks finding the information I want.
I just checked on the batch of 8 eggs (this one included) I set on the 31st and one of them just pipped in the past hour so I should know within the next 24 hours. This guy has developed fine and is right on schedule to hatch so I have my fingers crossed.
Also, a couple says ago I was setting...
Well, I picked up some eggs on the 10th, they had a pack date of the 4th so I couldn't have asked for much better there. On day ten 6 are still good and seem to be right on track with developing, 4 or 5 had a blood ring and 1 or 2 candled totally clear. I'm not sure if these guys are weaker at...
I don't pay much attention to the humidity the first 18 days, I just checked on mine though as I have some in the incubator and some in the hatcher. The ones in the incubator are at 20% (I live in Arizona), I will add some water which should kick them up to about 30% but I don't keep a very...

They make little plug and play rheostats which I think would be a much wiser idea, you could even run a 150w bulb like that. The above idea is really good thinking but twice the bulbs still adds up to twice the chance of failure.
I would run two lower wattage bulbs, I run the 7w and...
My eggs always start pipping on day 19 and all are out on day 20, I figured maybe my temps were too high but they stay super spot on and I have been getting 100% hatch rates so I'm not going to mess with things.
Anyway, since I know how this goes timeframe wise, I will sometimes help them along...

I had that issue, put the egg in a deli cup (with a few holes) on top of the eggs in the auto turner, I added some damp paper towel to up the humidity in the deli cup and all went fine.
Thats a great idea! Maybe it is because I'm sleepy but, why do I put the deli cup on top of the...
