No there in the same pen and they free range, its there first year to set, its like there to heavy. There is a board with hay in a milk crate, any suggestions would be great. Softer nest maybe I have no idea; predators kill them out at the pond nesting so now there nesting inside, but I don't...
I need help I have three geese and a turkey trying to set, but they keep beaking their eggs. What can I do they want to set so bad, but they keep breaking the eggs.HELP!!!!!
The eggs should be fine my hens run each other off and eventually they go back to the right nest. As long as something is setting on them, they do get up and strech their legs occassionally. Don't give up yet, they probably will still hatch.
Thats great that she is laying eggs, she will keep going back; mine does and she won't lay anywhere else. Just watch out for egg thieves; being so low to the ground I had a pig get in and clean out all my turkeys eggs. ( pot belly)
Its a large milk crate on the ground low enough for her to reach, she's pretty big; with hay, no top in the corner for a little privacy away from the chickens. Nothing major its just the chickens nests are off the ground and smaller she wanted more room to move around and get comfortable.
My turkey was doing about the same thing come to find out she wanted a better place to nest. Now she has her own personal box and she quit pacing: now she lays her egg everyday and goes about her business.
28 days is the normal for geese eggs if your temperature has been consistent, variant temp causes late arrivals. Don't throw them away yet; when they start turning dark and slosh its time to give up. Good luck; try candling.
