Moving neighbors left behind one of those somewhat flimsy steel/chicken wire coops and said we could have it. They had it fairly well secured and fortified in their yard, but while we had it sitting outside our fence in order to move it inside, 80 mph winds sent it tumbling. (D'oh...why did I...
I have a NR 360 and it has done well, but if I was in the market for a new 'bator, the Maticoopx would be quite tempting, esp. if hatching shipped eggs due to the vertical egg placement.
Set 22 barnyard mix chicken eggs on March 18th. They are primarily Australorp/Easter Egger and Crested Cream Legbar. Candled again yesterday and only had to pull one. Also set 22 Welsh Harlequin duck eggs on the same day, but they will take another week.
Still have to get the brooder ready to...
Thanks so much for your reply! She was down probably no more than 5 minutes. Her comb is a healthy red, and she's eating and drinking...but not much. (She did gobble up some sorghum given her this morning. Guess it was extra tasty.) She is standing and will flap up to my arm when I clean out her...

Late Saturday afternoon, I found one of our almost 1-year-old Legbar hens trapped under the chain-link section of a 4' gate. When I ran to get it off of her, it looked as though the force of it had created a prolapse. Poor girl! I quickly read up on prolapse, cleaned...
I also like to give them a chance. Today I sold 2 beautiful, well-behaved Australorp x Easter Eggers to a family who didn't have roosters but wanted some. Didn't charge much, but it was an effort to be sure they weren't just going to be dinner, and they won't be. So happy for them.
As you...
Thanks
Thanks so much, Miss Lydia and Relicshunter. That helps. I'm still trying to figure out the local market. I bought the parents from 4-H advisers in the next county. (They had hatched them from multiple batches of shipped eggs, as they were so hard to find here.) They had priced them at...
I have all Welsh Harlequins after doing a lot of research, because we were interested primarily in eggs, but Appleyards are beautiful, and rarer. Probably depends on if you want them for meat, too, or if you want to help support a rarer breed.
(Ok, so we have 1 Pekin, because she was the only...
I have around 13 Welsh Harlequins of about 3 months old that I'd like to sell. Their parents placed in the county fair, and their markings are correct, to the best of my knowledge.
Our area of E. Texas doesn't have a lot of this breed, and I am trying to figure out how much to ask for males and...
Haven't winterized the coop yet, and I can tell my girls and boys aren't very excited about the cold. Definitely huddling together. Tomorrow will be warmer...
I've been blessed to sell them to friends. Haven't really needed to branch out past that yet. You do have to figure out what to do with the extra cockerels, though, since not everyone will want them.
