    Replacing my cock.

-A couple of days old. -If they didn't accept them, I didn't want to endanger the whole flock of them. -So far, so good!

    Replacing my cock.

Spoke with the breeder, discussed dimensions and layout and so forth, and multiple breeders are saying my setup will be just fine, so let's set that aside and let history be the judge of it. Now...the integration is going well. I have 2 hens that are broody, and I've introduced 2 wee chickies...

    Replacing my cock.

This is a chick. I do have a dog that watches and protects my flock, though, so the hens won't be "naked" if I choose to rotate the old roo out early.

    Replacing my cock.

I again messaged the breeder, and was told my situation is going to be fine, depending on the birds, stating that they only need 6" per bird to roost. The coop is well vented. The lay-out of the roosts maximizes the space. That said, if they squabble, etc. I have a few neighbors who would gladly...

    Replacing my cock.

The roof is corrugated, so natural ventilation occurs where the dips and rises abutt the structure. There is also a window for a through breeze in warm weather. I have only had a couple inches if snow for a couple days max.

    Replacing my cock.

Winters arent too bad. They did well last year. I wanted some variety, so I am buying other breeds. I tried to let the hens hatch some eggs, but they are poor sitters, and simple math is that an incubator costs nearly what the hatched chicks do. All 10 fit fine when I just had 1 diagonal beam in...

    Replacing my cock.

Wifh 10 chickens, they currently use less than half the roosting space when I check on them at night, clumped near the front.

Leaving coop door open at night?

I leave my entire coop open st night, and have for months. I also have a very well trained dog that skeeps either in it or beside it. Something to consider.

    Replacing my cock.

I have 9 welsummer hens and a welsummer cock. He is about 1 year old, and extremely aggressive. He attakcs my girlfriend even after taking food from her. This is unsat. I have purchased 7 Buckeye baby hens, and 1 Jersey Giant black cock. I read the JGs are much more chill wifh people. The...

    Update On My Flock

I just wanted to update the forum. Not that anyone is really concerned, but I dislike it when people come by a forum, ask for a ton of advice, and then peace out. So, here's my update (you can view the threads by searching my name/content). Preamble: I began with chickens and 0 experience about...

Its 10 chickens and 1 rooster long.

    The Tao of the Egglayer

I have not measured it, and quite honestly, I don't want to, nor do I wish to use sine, cosine, tangent, etc. to calculate it given the known dimensions fore and aft of the "triangle". because I swore I wouldn't use that after college. That said, I will gladly snap a picture tonight before work...
