Do these coop plans look good

That's great! Parallel roosts actually will be much more practical for my existing infrastructure, plus it will give more space between the roost and the ventilation. I think I will probably end up building both of them at the lower height (not enough width for a single roost in the coop).

Do these coop plans look good

Yes, I'm going to use a heavy-duty tarp that I will secure with wire cables and eye screws into the lawn (tarp will have metal eyelets). That way, when the weather is nice, I can unclip the tarp. I plan on using cattle panels to create a domed roof that will attach to the top of the dog kennel -...

Do these coop plans look good

I actually read this article months ago! Awesome! I have photos of my build so far in this thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/how-to-fix-a-measuring-mistake.1553662/#post-26284239 I don't have a ton done yet. I have decided to fix my measuring mistake by adding length to the frame...

Do these coop plans look good

Minnesota (zone 4b). I will probably have 4 hens (my city limit), but want to be able to accommodate up to 6 hens in case I have to do a partial turnover of my flock due to predators/illness. On top of this, I will have 2 square feet of windows. This is just the overhead ventilation. I would...

Do these coop plans look good

I had to tweak my coop plans when I realized that I didn't have enough ventilation. I now should have about 2.5 sq ft of ventilation for a 24 sq ft coop. Adding more ventilation meant that I had to adjust my roost placement. Is it alright to combine parallel and ladder style placements? I don't...

How to fix a measuring mistake

The building is quite light - the roof and extension will make it a little heavier, but it was very easy to lift with two people (and I'm weak). I wanted to add diagonal bracing, but my partner's dad was convinced that it wasn't necessary (it's hard working with family, especially when you're...

How to fix a measuring mistake

I think so. I just don't have much technical know-how. I have a bit of extra lumber and enough 4x4 to make two more legs. I just added pictures.

How to fix a measuring mistake

Hi all, I'm making a 24 square foot coop. I'm putting the coop on top of a raised base. It is a frame with 3 cross beams made of 2x4s (width) and two 2x4s for the length. The legs are 24" high and are made from 4x4s. Well, I accidentally measured the base wrong (I calculated square feet on the...

Annual Egg Production - Lights vs No Lights

I'm aware. For the breeds I want I can't find a better hatchery though - also, only a select few hatcheries even have low minimums at all, and many of those require 3+ of the same breed (which would limit my ability to get different breeds). My plan is to raise 15 in the brooder and sell off the...

Annual Egg Production - Lights vs No Lights

Thanks! I do plan on learning how to water glass. Laying decreases about 20% per year, right?

Annual Egg Production - Lights vs No Lights

I'm looking at my first flock next year. We homestead on a .25 acres in a suburb of Minneapolis (zone 4b). We are allowed to have 4 hens (no roosters), no free-ranging, and no selling of eggs on prem. My family consists of my partner and I (and our 2 dogs, but we don't give them eggs) and we are...

    Layer feed recommendations?

I found a locally made feed called ADM PenPals Egg Maker that I might give a try. They offer a discount for ordering a subscription (19.99 for 50 lbs). Anyone ever heard of them? It's made in MN.
