    They have arrived

Wow, this thread as really inspired us to give meat birds a go. We have all of the facilities already since we do layers so we have no reason not to raise them. Since you have done this a few times now maybe you can answer this with some accuracy. Do you know, from start to finish, what the...

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

A little update. We received four eggs today. One of them was from a hen we thought had quit laying. So four out of seven producing hens is a huge step in the right direction. Thanks for all the support on this problem. Cheers everyone!

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

Quote: I have been noticing more feathers around in the last two weeks, as well as alot of crazy hair dues around the flock. Feathers sticking out everywhere. It would be my luck i am going through a season change, a moult, a post food shortage, laying box deprevation crisis, all at the same...

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

Quote: We have a community laying box. Mostly they like to just lay on the floor of the hen house. It is a smaller hen house and we use the deep litter method so it is easy for them to nestle in and lay a few eggs if they want. One of my projects, if time allows, is ot build two nest boxes...

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

Quote: The wife tried this just now and she said the girls could really care less about the water. So i do not think is a water issue at this point. I picke up the timer and light on Monday to give that a try as well.

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

Thank you everyone. I will try the light and timer. As well as the bowl of water. As far as feed goes, they are not running out during the day between refill/top offs. We got an egg from one of the new birds today so maybe that is a good sign!

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

OK i will incorporate this into what i am trying as well. Thanks again. I will let the wife know to have a little more patience and see if things get better. I really do not want to have a $100 pot of chicken soup. :) Thanks

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

Thanks for the reply. No stress recently that i know of. The scratch is in such a low amount that they eat everything. I have been watching them eat closely and they do not throw anything out. They actually cant with the new type of feeder that i bought since this had been an issue in the past.

Gallus Gallus Domesticus, How Have I Failed You!?!

Hello all, I will try to keep this as short as possible and still give as much information as I can. I am a fairly new chicken owner with a problem. We are just not getting eggs. We are slowly checking off any changing variables to see if we start to get results. Here is all the information...

How many feeders/trinker do I need

In regard to the second half of your statement. How does the chickens "sleeping in" effect things as for as the chicken goes? I do have this setup, and they are locked in until about 6-7AM when i get out there. Could i be effecting something in a negative way? Thanks.

    Death From Above!

Quote: You know i did not even think of the netting like that. I could run 1x2's across the top and it would support the netting. I live downtown so low profile is key. I will look into it and give it a go. Cheers!

    Death From Above!

Quote: Thanks for the reply. My setup is an uncovered 10x30' run on the side of my home with a coop house that they sleep in that is fully enclosed. During the day they free range in the whole yard. It would cost me a small fortune to cover that whole run area. So my only other options are...
