Introducing new chickens to existing flock

I agree regarding the space. Just put them all in together and keep an eye on them just in case. In nearly all circumstances they will sort out any dominance issues themselves without much bloodshed. I only used to have major problems when the space I kept the birds in was too small but now...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Hi, I think I can answer your questions. 1) ALL chicks have dust (including quails, turkeys etc.) and if you keep them inside it gets everywhere. 2) Most chicks will bond to you because you are the food provider and give them affection. When you appear, there they will come running. 3) Dust...

What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

I hatch eggs professionally and would vote for using the best incubator you can possibly afford. My incubators cost over 800 pounds sterling each including the humidifier unit but they are worth every penny.

What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

I agree. From my experience late hatching chicks normally have problems although occasionally you may be lucky.

What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

There are Jersey Giant breeders in the UK who willingly ship eggs and sell chicks. Try an internet search UK based. This is one of the boys hatched in Portugal from a UK egg. From memory I believe ours came from somewhere in Devon.

This is the one that I use for quails. This is what I use for the chicks, turkeys, geese and ducklings. There is a bit of a mixture in this bowl but they all get on well together. Vale das Lascas

Official BYC Poll: The Worst Predator

Totally agree about the birds of prey and magpies. We spend much of the day protecting our free range chicks and the hawks will take them from about 3 mtrs away. All our ducklings are kept inside until they are big enough to be safe. Very small chicks are kept in the "playpen". The solar...

What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

Took a lot of time and hard work to get there but we now a little bit of paradise for us, our animals and whoever wants to share it with us is most welcome. I have hatched thousands of eggs in my time! These are some more of my babies under the fig tree.

What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

I am lucky in that I have industrial egg incubators. I leave the eggs 24 hrs and then set the humidity and temperature and have a good hatch rate. These are some of the ducks and geese that I have hatched. Vale das Lascas.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I have a chick in the incubator and it is stuck with its wing to its head. Going to try to remove it with the warm water. Vale das Lascas
