A good dog house for 3 ducks

I would not insulate. If you insulate, you run the risk of condensation building up and keeping it wet. Ducks have down jackets on! I live in Maine, mine were cold this winter, but were fine, and as long as they are able to get out of the wind and elements and have dry straw (not hay) to...

A good dog house for 3 ducks

Silly-Some suggestions. Line the floor with something you can easily clean. Wood will get filthy quickly. They will get poop on walls and floor, so make sure you can clean easily. Also, make sure there is a secure door and good ventilation. If you decide to put in windows, cover them with...

Why would a black duck start growing white feathers?

My two year old Muscovy hens were completely black when I got them at 6 months or so. They now have a white on their wings. It is pretty cool looking. I am assuming that they will get even whiter as they age.

    Muscovy drake for adoption

I posted in the maine thread but not in New Hampshire or Massachusetts. When I get up to my computer, I will try to remember to put it on both of those also. It's kind of a pain when I'm using either my iPad or my iPhone.

    Muscovy drake for adoption

If I didn't have my runner drake I would take him. But Virgil is pretty small and I am a bit nervous about putting the two together. So, I can't take him. I hope someone does. Would be cool if it was someone on here.

    Muscovy drake for adoption

I just posted on the Maine thread about a Muscovy drake that is in a local shelter and needs a home. So, anyone in Maine, or maybe NH or MA that could help this poor lonely guy, take a look. Fingers crossed that he finds a home with a few ladies.............................

Southern Maine muscovy drake for adoption

I just saw on my local animal shelter site that they have a muscovy drake up for adoption. http://animalwelfaresociety.org/animals/maynard/ This shelter does not normally handle livestock and I worry that he is not being cared for properly. I don't like the write up they have either. It...

    Dogs and Ducks

Instinct is VERY hard to retrain. While most bird dogs only flush or retrieve, that can still hurt, frighten or kill a duck (or chicken). I know people on here will allow their dogs with their ducks. It is just my personal opinion that it is just not a good idea. Only takes a second for...

Ducks in the garden--what they will eat, what they will leave alone?

That's not the kind we get. I will try to see if I can find what grows up here in Maine. The flowers are white and the berries are red. Let's see what I can find. http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Solanaceae_Solanum_ptycanthum_17795.html Hope this comes out. This is exactly...

Ducks in the garden--what they will eat, what they will leave alone?

We lost two ducks to nightshade poisoning. It was wild deadly nightshade. One ate the leaves and just got sick, eventually we had her euthanized. Vet was not sure what happened. When it happened again, the plants were flowering and the berries were out, the second duck ate some and got very...

    Best breed for a pet?

FWIW, I recommend Pekins or Muscovies. I know, I know, Muscovies are "ugly". I thought so too till I got some. They are almost dog like and if you want calm, they are the calmest breed I have every seen. They are sturdy, lay well and if you get girls, the caruncles are not very pronounced...
