    Arizona Chickens

Sorry for your loss. We have lost many to coyotes and hawks. Coyotes have come I even when we are with them. Finally gave up and restrict them to a very large run that has wire over the top to keep the hawks out. :(

    Questions

    1. What is the best way to introduce new chickens into the flock? We were down to two. A friend has offered us several more. They are all adult. We put two in the coop last night when it was roosting time. Today, they are all skittish and avoiding each other, but not fighting. The new...

    decreased egg production

I have been getting 6-7 eggs daily from my 11 hens. Production has dropped to just a couple per day and one of the hens hasn't laid an egg in over a week. I was told that it is because the daylight hours are getting shorter, but it is still light almost 11 hours per day and nice and warm...

    very small eggs

Makes sense that they would start out smaller. They are just teenagers, after all. I have 1 Ameraucana (did have two, but we found the rooster dead a week ago for no apparent reason), 1 Buff Orpington, 3 Rhode Island Reds, 3 "Production Reds" and 3 Barred Rocks. In addition, we have two...

    very small eggs

The "girls" started laying last week about a week earlier than expected. I have 11 hens and we are getting 3 to 4 eggs a day, but they are very small. I don't remember this from keeping chickens years ago. Is this normal?

    Arizona Chickens

I live in the Phoenix area. We just got back into chickens, but raised them for years and never misted. We have an open mesh gate on the coop and their little door into the run. There is also a ceiling fan. We planted two trees in the run and will also put up some shade cloth. I have two...

    ground cover in run

I was actually thinking about a combination of the two. We live in the desert (Arizona) and it will deteriorate rapidly. A lot of the property is covered with various grades of decomposed granite. That would also work.

    ground cover in run

The chicken Taj Mahal is done. The run is large (40 x 35). We planted a couple of trees for shade and will have some bushes in there, but I'd like to put something down so the girls are not walking in just dust and/or mud. Would pine bark work? All suggestions welcome!

    new coop and run

We kept chickens for years, but have not had them for 6+ years and I'm feeling I need some info from "the experts". I now have 12 week old chicks living in a very large dog kennel. We just completed a major remodel of their "palace". The coops is big. It's half of a foaling barn with...
