I'd say my dream flock would be about 60-80 chickens. I'd like to have about a dozen jersey giants, a dozen buff and lavender orpingtons, a dozen golden comets, black austrolorps, isa browns, some sussex and blue laced red wyandottes.
I counted my chickens at night and it's tight. It's to the point it can be hard for me to open back up, unless I'm weak I don't think a raccoon could get it. There's only a door for people in it too. There's only minks in my area that I know of and I know it isn't that little son of a gun again...
I had 27 chickens just 2 monthes ago and now I'm down to 20. By the time I had lost 3 chickens, my neighbor lost 5-6 that same week. He found out his problem was a hawk, but for several weeks I had my chickens locked up (got a lavender orpington from the neighbors so I had to integrate him...
Kentucky, and the reason I decicded on 12 was to make extra pieces of wood I could use later on, and I wanted it as big as possible. I've heard when you build something and you decide on a size, double that because you will always want more room and I plan on hardware cloth windows on the...
Minks will slaughter alot of any bird for fun. They'll eat some but they eat from the head to the intestines or to the butt. And coyotes leave alot of struggle. Never heard of what skunks done though.
I want a chicken coop and I plan on building it. I got wood from the place I used to work about a year ago for free, and they're mostly 16 foot 2 by 4s. I think I'll make it 16x12x8 with a 16x16 run. My ideas (besides the roost and water and food) is a swing for them to play on, a spot where...
My main suspects are owls, hawks, raccoons, and a fox. My cousin told me a fox can go anywhere he can stick it's head and they're in a dog pen with holes they could probably fit their head through, but they shouldn't be able to take the chicken out without completely ripping all the feathers and...
I did just 2 days ago, nothing yet except my neighbor told me a hawk has been getting his, except when mine went missing they was completely locked in my coop, so we could clean our porch and integrate a new rooster (lavender orpington he's gorgeous and I love orpingtons)
I have very few guineas that roost at night, I'm talking I've never seen more than 6 up there. Every night they're out in the run (I have 16 guineas and 1 bany rooster who thinks he's a guinea), a couple standing underneath the rafters, and a couple in the rafters. Why? I recently moved them in...
