I have a frizzled rooster that was with both smooth and frizzled hens, don't know who the mother is, my hens all lay eggs in the same nest, 3 of the hens lay eggs that look the same, I just picked 2 hoping the smooth hen was the mother, she has not been with a rooster so that is not the problem...
I accidently hatched a frazzle, saved 2 eggs to hatch that I thought came from a smooth hen, rooster turned out frizzled and is doing fine but the hen must have had 2 frizzled parents. Anyway, she is very sweet and outgoing. Feathers came in good at first, then she lost the ones on her head...
Hi Ellen,
Glad to see you got yourself some chickens. I haven't been on here very much myself the last couple years. Not sure if
you remember Bridgette, the bantam SLW I got from you about 6 1/2 yrs ago, still have her and her daughter, Florette.
Wanda
you have to be careful with standard roosters and bantam hens, the weight of the rooster can injure the hens back. I have even heard of them breaking hen's backs.
I bought a cheap 2 story hutch/coop (44 x 27) off ebay, put a bottom on it, it's sitting on cinder blocks til I can find something better to raise it up. I have 3 chicks that I hatched in there but 2 are cockerals and seem to be pickering already so now I am looking for a good used rabbit cage...
I hatched out 2 cockerals and one pullet. My guys are only 5 weeks old and starting to fight already. I was hoping they would
get along and it was just play but they both have blood spots on their heads. Would like another pullet or 2 or 3 so I can pair
them off. I am in SE PA.
thanks,
Wanda
Yes they did, there were 4 but I think the hen may have stepped on one but the 3 that are left will be 2 weeks old on Wed. and are doing
really well. thanks
I just recently purchased a used cube. I love it but I am wondering how secure the eggport is against something like a raccoon who is intelligent enough to turn the handle. Has anyone done anything to make it more secure. I was thinking in terms of something to go around the body of the...
I just got some serama eggs and have a broody bantam sitting on them. I have read that odds are I might not get a chick but just in case, can someone tell me what I do after they hatch? I did read their feed needs to be ground, do I just put regular chick feed in a food grinder? Any other...
I use deer netting, it is sturdier then the bird netting and easier to work with. I've also read you can string fishing line across the
pen and it scares them off when they tip their wings on it, never tried it but it would probably be better if you get a lot of snow, the
snow weighs the deer...
