okey listen I really really need chicken names

I like to name my girls unique names. They are golden comet girls named: Buffy (for buffalo), Terri (for teriyaki), Barbie (for BBQ), and Tyrone (long story...). Yes, we have a strange sense of humor! I had an Ella, Speckled Sussex named for Cruella because she looked like she had a...

    Treating yard for cluster flies

I am looking for ways to help mange cluster flies. The previous owners used to treat the yard but since we have been here 3 years we haven't done anything. This fall the cluster flies were so bad. We would kill about 30 a day in the house and it would look like a scary Halloween movie on the...

    Laying Question

I think it is so funny when they are so proud of themselves laying and start singing! Sometimes I feel I need to go over and start clapping and tell them what a good job they have done! :D

Chickens hanging out under deck - smell?

I would put lattice up. My coop is under my deck and I am vigilant on scooping the coop, putting down DE and turning the sand on the run. Without that, I believe over time, it would start to stink and it would be hard to change once it happened. Hope that helps!

    Broody chicken

My Ella (Cruella when she was broody!) became broody and I was a newbie but found what worked best for her was a broody buster! I didn't have any extra cage but used a Have a Heart fox catcher and it worked very well. (There was not a fox in it!) :)I elevated it to make it cooler underneath, put...

What are your favorite breed of chickens to lay eggs?

I have been a chicken mama only a year and found Golden Comets are everyday layers and very cold weather tolerant. I also have an EE and speckled Sussex that lay almost everyday. I love EE green colored eggs.

    First egg, who layed it?

I just got an EE about 2 months ago and she (Lou Who) finally laid an egg! It was a nice shade of green, so I agree with the others it was probably your RIR. Funny thing is the day she laid, she was also singing and making strange sounds. So strange that my other girls were looking around to...

Want to be able to hold 1 1/2 yr old Golden Comet pullets without girls panicking!

I have 3 Golden Comets approximately 1 1/2 years old. I got them when they were about 1. I love my girls! Being a newbie, I chose older chickens vs chicks. They are really sweet and come to me when I call them, with their funny chicken run. I would like to be able to hold them and handle...
