So, in the spring, I purchased six Silkie chicks from a local lady. I have a perfect little coop that I wanted to make into a dedicated Silkie coop (separate from my larger, standard breed coop). The seller said they were all females. I knew better because I know bantams are not usually sexed...
I have had this door with the added solar kit since summer 2017 and had absolutely no issues with it. Opens and closes everyday without fail. It is nice that it adjusts the open/close times based on sunrise/sunset for our location so I don't have to reset it through the year.
Yep, I agree with you on all of the above. I definitely enjoy the dynamic that a rooster can add to the flock as he looks after the girls. I never had any that were aggressive to me, but had a couple that didn't like my sons. In the end, since we don't breed, it's just easier not to deal with a...
It was Meyer. We live in Ohio, so I like that I can drive there to pick my chicks up and they don't go through the mail. I will get in touch with them. :thumbsup
I agree with the others. Could have some welsummer in her as the neck feathers look somewhat similar. My welsummers have all been darker than her. The lacing on her body feathers is pretty though!
I actually used to live in Arizona (Mesa), but we're definitely far from there now. :) Funny thing is I actually wanted the crested cream legbars, but they were sold out, which is what led me to make the impulse buy of this one at the last minute. Don't know whether we'll keep him or not. We can...
I'm not sure how that works. I will have to look into it. I have gotten males in my pullet order before, but usually they only cost a few dollars, so I didn't even both requesting a refund.
Thanks for the confirmation. "She" was a last minute impulse buy with my hatchery chick order...I know getting a male is always a possibility, but he cost more than the rest of my chicks combined, so that is kind of a bummer. Was really looking forward to those pretty eggs.
I ordered a frost white legbar female, but I'm suspecting that she is actually a he. Thoughts? He/she is about twelve weeks old. Sorry my phone does not take great pics. These are the best I could get.
We used to live in Champion. We have since moved to SW Ohio, but have family in Warren.

Here is the wording about animals:

Unfortunately, I think you will find that coop to be one of the ones to stay away from. They are made from lightweight material and will not last. We have something similar that we were given for free. We use it as a "play pen" for our brooder chicks when they are ready to go outside a few hours...

Is the property in a platted subdivision or in an area of fifteen or more contiguous lots that would be considered a subdivision under the law? See here for more info (especially the last paragraph)...
Hi and welcome to BYC! I live in Southwest Ohio (Clark County) now after living in Northeast Ohio (Trumbull County) previously. :)
Zoning for agriculture/livestock can be confusing in Ohio because it varies depending on whether you live in a township, village, or city. Ohio state law puts...
Hi, aart,
Our current coop is 8x14 minus a walled off entry/storage, so about 100 sq ft indoor space. Our previous house/coop was of similar size/design. The chickens have an 8x13 outside covered run. I try to let them range the yard (one acre) when I can supervise, but that's not possible...
