Should I be feeding my cross beak chick grit or tiny rocks?

I was hoping to offer him flax seed but am hesitant until I know if I need to give him some grit?

Should I be feeding my cross beak chick grit or tiny rocks?

I have been supplementing what ever little bits of crumble chick feed he's been able to get on his own with three daily feelings of baby parrot formula. I noticed he was lagging way behind his sisters, but since I started supplementing him, he's on his way to catching up. My question is...

help - large external ulcer [w/graphic pic]

I'm so sorry you and your hen are going through this. The minute I read your story, I remembered recently reading a story about fly strike on a blog I follow. Her hen was saved and is doing great. Btw, she says her hen "beats the odds again" because the hen had a previous, unrelated illness...

Meet Carl, the cross beak, EE cockerel

Carl is an Araucana, otherwise known as an EE from the local feed store. He came from the "we promise they're all pullets" bin and lucky for Carl we were hoping for a boy!! He's sweet as can be and so far so good on the flogging ;) His cross beak showed up when he was about a week old and I...

EE chick stumbling, holding wings away from body, not eating well

I brought 8 EE chicks home from the feed store Thursday. I was told they were 2 days old and they looked very healthy. I choose them myself and watched carefully before choosing the ones to come home with me. My broody hen readily accepted them as always. I noticed Friday that the chick stood...

    Dixie Chicks

Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has a couple chicks due to hatch soon that I could come pick-up (I live in Marietta Ga ~ N of ATL) and have a very reliable, very unhappy broody hen that has been sitting on hatching eggs I bought and had shipped, and all have turned out to be duds. I...

Lg animal vet to help me with chicken. What meds to avian vets use???

I've got my large animal vet coming out Monday morning to give the horses their yearly shots and I think it's time for one of our oldest hens to be put down. I know she's been a little off in recent weeks and earlier in the week I removed a lot of light yellow fluid from her lower abdomen. I...

    anyone grow their own veg?

We've had a real problem with squirrels and chipmunks too! They're taking over. They've eaten the tomatoes, the tops off the carrots, onions and garlic. We had a real problem with rabbits eating the sweet potato vines and the pole beans. An apron of hardware cloth stopped the rabbits, but if...

Chick advice needed ASAP! (adoption gone wrong)

Well, bad news ... she did let them stay under her over night, but when one of the chicks came out from under her this morning she made an odd noise and started pecking it. I tried placing it among her other other chicks while they ate, and she still pecked it. I've got them back up in the...

Chick advice needed ASAP! (adoption gone wrong)

Did she free range with them all, or was she in a pen? My main worry is, the little ones just won't be able to keep up free ranging. The older chicks are at the stage that the run full speed where ever they go. Maybe Millie will wait for the little ones.

Chick advice needed ASAP! (adoption gone wrong)

Thank you Remudamom! I'm going to place the little ones under her when she comes in from free ranging this evening. Fingers crossed it goes well. Glad to hear it worked for you. How big of an age difference were the chicks in your case? Mine are a little more than 2 1/2 weeks apart.
