Thanks for the reply. When I took the needle out she drained a bit of fluid that looked just like fluid I’d drained off in the past - dark yellow and not thick. Maybe I’m sticking her in the wrong spot! I’ll try again tomorrow.
I have a little silkie with water belly. I’ve drained her a few times without issue and she’s very happy afterwards. The last two times I’ve tried to drain her I can’t pull back on the plunger of the syringe for some reason. It feels stuck tight like it’s vacuumed closed. When the syringe...
Just set up an electric wire fence to keep the raccoon away from my flock. Wondering what the effective voltage is while still being safe in case my dogs (25 lb and 45 lb) investigate.
Here is the setup: wooden posts with chicken wire and aviary netting secured to cross pieces. New...
Ok so I took it out of the incubator. I tried taking some of the shell away from around the hole but the membrane was like glue around the bill. I tried tapping the bill and no response. I think it’s dead.
Thanks for your help!! Ok. How will I know if it is alive or dead? Will it be obvious? In the last 15 min the other egg has pipped and making very quick progress. Should I open the incubator to test the other egg while there is so much activity at the other egg?
Hi
Anyone out there that can help me tonight? I still have my first pipped duck in the same state - no further progress since yesterday - see photo in last post. No movement. Bill sticking through hole, no hole progress. I just saw a little more brown goo come out of the hole about 1/2 hr...
So I turned the pipped egg so the hold wasn’t toward the bottom and went to bed last night. Same position today. No rocking etc. I think the hole looks a bit bigger today but that would be wishful thinking. Still has the bill poking thru but no movement and no more liquid. Other egg has...
Thanks. I just checked before going to bed and this is what I found: the pipped egg with the little bill sticking out of it is in the very same spot. I turned the incubator to get a better look and the egg moved off its "goo" base. It is a yellowish color goo. The bill is dry. The...
His bill isn’t wet - it was a little wet but the drops fell off and that is what “pooled” under the egg. His bill is dry now. Do you think I should still open it? Nerve tacking is an understatement. Omg I’m a mess. Thanks for your advice!!! I super appreciate it.
I’m not sure what bruising looks like. This is my first hatch. Some areas of the egg look a little darker than other areas. The darker areas seem to have grown since yesterday morning.
So it’s that little but between the base of the egg and the hatching grate. You can see the little bill pipped our on the right side. Ignore the line thru the egg and the droplets - those are on the outside of the incubator. Other than the bill the egg is smooth and intact. Some areas of the...
Thanks for the reply! Today is day 27. I started lockdown yesterday morning, day 26. Stopped turning them, stopped cooling/misting daily. Raised humidity.
During incubation the humidity was at 55% and temp at 99.5. Never got it to be exactly steady, but I checked multiple times per day...
I have two Pekin eggs in lockdown since yesterday. One egg rocks around a bit, but no pip yet. The other one pipped a bit yesterday and this afternoon the little bill starting poking thru the hole! Then some liquid dripped off the bill for a bit and now that liquid had settled a bit under the...
