Well it is good to know what to expect I guess. The grazing frame from the previous poster also looks like a really good idea. I think I will do what both of you have suggested and see what happens!
I am wanting to expand my chicken run so my girls have lots of room but the hubby is happy that they are not tearing up the whole yard! I got a 30' x 30' area he said that I can fence right now I have 4 girls but want to add some more this year. How many do you think I can add without them...
I am also in my first year so not an expert at all but we put straw in our nest boxes and golf balls and our hens lay in the boxes. Except for the shelless ones that they layed in the night right under the roost, seemed like they were on accident!
Well, this morning I went out and there were two more shell less eggs, one very squished but not broken. They were at the other end of the roost on the floor again. I am pretty sure that the same chicken laid them both both times. I also think she may have been sitting on the roosting bar when...
O.k. I posted the other day that I thought one of my pullets layed two shell less eggs in one day, I know it is very rare but I think she did it again. I have 5 pullets. 2 that are laying nearly everyday (in the nest boxes) and three that I didn't think were ready to lay yet. A few days ago I...
I got two eggs like normal during the day in the nest boxes then found the two shell less ones on the floor together when I shut the coop, maybe two of them started laying on the same day and they were both shell less but the other two never had a shell less one and since they already laid their...
I have two barred rocks that have been laying eggs in the nest box for a couple of weeks they are small but normal. Last night when I went to close the coop I found two shell less eggs on the floor would the same chicken lay both of them and does this mean anything bad or just starting and is...
Congratualtions on your first eggs! Our barred rock just laid our first egg today, I was thrilled!! Your eggs do not look too small are they small? Ourse was pretty small.
My very first egg!!! I am so excited!! The golf balls did the trick, first egg right in the nest box. A barred rock layed this egg, I got her May 14th and they said she was a week or two old so somewhere between 16-18 wks! I was even there when she layed it!! One of my trips out to the coop she...
I wondered if that was what one of my girls was doing too! I now have two of them doing it. They are about 16-18 weeks old not sure exactly but no eggs yet so maybe they are on their way!!
Thanks, I think so too. ;)
They are all hens. The barred rocks started getting theirs pretty young but I am not sure exactly when this picture is around 4-5 weeks old and her comb is started. This is the barred rock with less comb now. The wattles they just started getting in the last month or...
My chicks are about 14 weeks old and all are in what seems to be different stages developmentaly. I guess my only reason for saying that is that their combs and wattles vary greatly in how far they are along. Just wondering why that would be if they are all the same age and eat the same thing...
