Thanks! It's day 15. I figure on day 17 I'll start getting a pen ready just in case. She still seems pretty determined! And the eggs I've candled have been developing on track. Now I've just gotta hope she'll be a good mama when her eggs hatch.
So I have a RIR who went broody well over a month ago. Her first batch of eggs she was setting failed. After 30 days I decided to make the hard decision to discard her eggs and I had hoped that she would mellow out (she's been the comedic relief on the farm lately with her crabby disposition and...
Interesting point...I have some barred rocks that are young. I got them the last week of March. The last time I let them out she chased and pecked them. However, that was about 3 weeks ago. Still worry about predators though. We have a rather large owl and hawk population where I'm at.
She rolls them. The were on plate on the shelf next to her nesting box. when she was with her original flock she would roll the other hens eggs into her nest.I have seen her do it. I really hope that wasn't a shot at my intelligence because I know "hens can't carry eggs" my parents raised free...
I cannot figure this hen out. Usually during the day she goes to the neighbors and only comes home to lay her egg and to roost. The last two weeks she's been acting odd. It started with her eggs. She took two eggs back to her nest that i had set on a shelf while i finished my chores. So i let...
I have chicken that used to eat eggs. I took 3 eggs that resembled her eggs and blew them out (poke a small hole in one end of the egg, a slightly larger hole in the other and blow into the smaller hole to get the egg out) I rinsed them in water and put a little mustard in them. Then I placed...
My neighbors large peacock has been in my yard making all kinds of noise these past few weeks. And he's getting progressively louder. It seems like his flock of peahens quit following him a few weeks ago and now he seems...lost. Today he started climbing up high on things to squawk. First he was...
My chickens and ducks get along but they were raised together. Also, my parents would buy ducks of varying breeds and they seemed to get along great. Good luck! I'm new to this site as well!
Hello all! I am from northern mn and have had chickens for about 6 months. Growing up, my parents raised chickens and ducks of varying breeds. Now, at 29, I have started raising chickens too. It started by accident. The home I moved to had a coop and the previous owners abandoned 2 barred rocks...
