Aw bummer. Thank you. I shouldn't be so bummed. I got 8 silkies, & these 2 were on a whim- "to make an even 10." But man are they gorgeous!

    Post your Duck names!

We have a KC named Wesley. Except Wesley is a girl. I have another KC, crested, named FROdo.

Can white Silkie chicks have pink skin at hatch?

Here's one for you. I have a silkie, about 3 months old. (S)he came to me with pink skin & one of her feet was the normal silkie 5-toed bird, but her other foot was a standard breed with FOUR toes! At 3 months she is STILL pink with the blue tiny around her face/head but still a pink beak. She...

OK, here we go. I finally just texted these 2 images to my email. I've put them side by side. You know how birds are- they don't stay still, but I hope this is better. Don't tell me what I want to hear, unless you mean it, LOL!

Thanks all! I was worried I had 2 roos :( I'm still hopeful, as the unbearded one has a lighter comb & MUCH less saddle feathering (I really looked them over- side by side, arm's length, etc when we put them up tonight). I will give it more time, but won't hold my breath. (mymilliefleur- age...

    Lumpkin Co/Dahlonega GA

My Mum lives outside city limit proper of Dahlonega on 1.25 acres. She's wanting a few chickens, but neither of us can find anything. The laws & ord page here is quite old (and also misspelled). Anyone in this city/county have chickens or access to a page that discusses the stipulations? The gov...

Can you sex chicks based on behavior?

EE's can be fairly standoffish. Much of their personality is based on their breed, then some from how they're raised. I have 3 EE's, 1 is VERY standoffish, 1 is fairly standoffish & the 3rd is sometimes standoffish, until you get a hold of her & then she's the calmest one I have.

My Dog broke into Henhouse to sleep with the Chicks... need advice!

Quote: We have a Saint/Border Collie mix & he's almost 7 months old. He herds my flock. We can't let him out when the chooks are out SOLELY because he thinks they need to be herded. He doesn't bark, growl or open his mouth, just puts his head down & chases them into the run. As soon as they're...

    OH MY Word!!!

We'll get more eventually. Right now I need to concentrate on the poults, since they are new to me as well. Next time, we'll get a few, though. Separate brooder, more research & hopefully we'll do better next time. I already told my little one that we'd try more down the road. He's happily...

    OH MY Word!!!

My littlest one took it pretty hard, but he's like that when ANYthing dies I was worried about duckie last night before bed anyway, because he hadn't taken to eating or drinking yet, even though I kept introducing him to the feed & water. I had put in a bowl of food as well as the chick feeder...
