My littlest one took it pretty hard, but he's like that when ANYthing dies

I was worried about duckie last night before bed anyway, because he hadn't taken to eating or drinking yet, even though I kept introducing him to the feed & water. I had put in a bowl of food as well as the chick feeder so he would be able to eat form the bowl, and not worry about getting his bill stuck in the little holes in the feeder.

On the bright side, as of this morning, the 28 chicks AND the 3 poults are doing well..... So far.....

My four year old takes it really hard to. Of corse the very first chicken we lost had to be hers. It was a couple days worth of it being brought up and cried about. Its been a few months and she still sometimes says how she misses her. We bought her and knew she was older, but DD just had to have her, she was a pretty EE that DD named Pretty Pumkin. I found her one morning, looked like she had died in her sleep. We had a nice little funeral and burried her by a tree where she could overlook the coop. It was DD's idea. So sweet.

I'm glad to hear the poults and chicks are doing well. Do you think you'll get more ducks?

We'll get more eventually. Right now I need to concentrate on the poults, since they are new to me as well. Next time, we'll get a few, though. Separate brooder, more research & hopefully we'll do better next time. I already told my little one that we'd try more down the road. He's happily playing outside with my little daycare girl
