Thank you! I'll look into White Rangers, I had these recommended by a FB group as well. I plan on eating everyone and butchering before bird puberty, so we shouldn't get too much sass! Best laid plans...my husband's biggest concern is I'm going to fall in love with a meat bird and we'll end up...
Thank you for this advice! This is encouraging, I'm relieved to hear they can more or less all be on the same feed. My egg layers already have an oyster shell station, and they can show the meat birds where the grit station is (though I'll add a few more to help spread everyone out).
I love this attitude 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for the advice! If it is chaotic and messy, it's only for a season or so!
I think I'm going to try this out and see what happens. You're right, they're called Freedom Rangers for a reason. I'll give updates and let everyone know what's working, what's not, and...
Hi All,
My husband and I want to get Freedom Rangers next year for meat birds. I have a flock of egg layers that free range our 3-acres all day, and then go home to their coop every night. The layer pellet feed is in the their coop. I'm mulling over the idea of letting the Freedom Rangers free...
Oops, sorry for such a delayed response! I followed the instructions on the package (https://birdpalproducts.com/products/tylosin-powder-for-birds) and gave 1 tsp per gallon for 7 days, and changed the water daily. I also kept my birds in the run so they could only access the treated water.
I did! I treated the whole flock for 10 days. The sneezing/sniffling stopped, though the lump on my Australorp's face never went down. I consulted my sister in law recently, who is an agent animal vet, and she suggested it may just be a fatty cyst since it hasn't changed size or shape in months...
Thank you for the feedback! I agree, my chickens always go on a hunger strike after 3-4 days when I fully separate them, I'm sure she'll do better by going home at night and still seeing everyone during the day.
Yes! Here are a couple of picture I took over lunch. Her eye membrane looks healthy and clear to me, no discharge from the nostrils or eyes. She was digging in my garden, which is why her face is covered in junk/dirt.
She is skittish so I decided not to pick her up to feel if the lump is hard...
Thank you for such a quick response! I'll go ahead and treat the chickens, I agree that medicine has a time and a place! Good idea to follow up with probiotics and natural immune system boosters, as well. I'll post an update in 1-2 weeks here once all the treatments run their course!
Hi All,
I have 1-2 chickens who have been sneezing for the past 5-7 days, and another with a swollen lump under her eye and along her sinus. The lump appeared 1-2 days ago. All are behaving healthy - eating, normal poops, curiously exploring, laying, etc. However I am worried about serious...
Thank you for the quick feedback! They keep the water clean in the run, I have the gallon waterers hanging high enough for them to not kick leaves and debris in the waterer.
You read my mind, I decided I am going to have a neighbor check on the waterers Saturday afternoon, and refill with...
Thanks for the detailed feedback! No one looks like they have worms (clean butts, poops aren't too runny), I wasn't sure if I should treat for worms as well since I'm not 100% sure the chickens have Cocci. I started them on Corid yesterday, and have the powder mixed in a 1 gal waterer (no metal...
Hi All,
I found a bloody poop in the yard this morning before work, and fear Coccidiosis is in my flock. I plan to get some Corid for their waterer today, and leave them all in the run for 5 days to ensure this is all they are drinking. BUT, I have to leave town Friday-Sunday (bad timing on the...
