    Missing Feathers...

Some of my new to me 2 year old chickens are missing feathers on the back toward the tail feathers. It is down to the skin (which is pink) I don't see blood or scabs. Any ideas what this could be caused from?

    Arizona Cool

Just added a 20 foot misting system to the backyard for our hot Arizona summers - of course today it was in the low 70's and super windy! I figured this would cool a big portion of the chickens part of the yard - I also have it on a timer so it will go of about 4 times a day to keep it cool and...

Our hens have stopped laying eggs...

They will either slow down in production or stop all together. Once the new feathers start coming back in they should be fine.

    Arizona Chickens

Quote: Hey, Johny! You can sneak the chicks under her at night, otherwise, she probably won't accept them. Where'd you get the chicks? Arizona Feeds

Will my barred rock keep their green eyes with they get older??

Mine all started that way but turned out to a yellow/orange color.

    Arizona Chickens

I'm in Yuma, AZ - Just picked up 2 more barred rocks today - I have a broody hen not sure if she will accept them but it would be nice. Still getting an egg from her but it's only been 3 days now so she might stop laying soon.

    My stupid human trick...

Get better soon - might have dislocated the knee cap which is not good - hopefully it is just a bad bruise.

Which one of your hens makes the most noise?!

My Barred Rock GRUMPY makes the most noise before and after laying an egg - and she also likes to find the highest point in the yard when the sun is coming up and makes tons of noise! She wants to be a rooster. She is also the largest of the barred rocks I have.

    New chick mom

My best advice for treats is to wait until they are fully feathered in about a few months or so. This gives them a chance to get used to eating the chick meal instead of just wanting treats. They get all the nutrients they need out of the feed. But very normal to check on them a lot. When my...

    Paper thin eggs

I get a few thin shelled eggs from time to time but for the most part the egg shells are thick compared to store bought eggs. I usually buy a 50lb of lay crumble and then a few pounds of oyster shell and mix in the bag. This gives them a good mixture throughout and saves time when feeding in...
