Arizona Chickens

I'm in Yuma, AZ - Just picked up 2 more barred rocks today - I have a broody hen not sure if she will accept them but it would be nice. Still getting an egg from her but it's only been 3 days now so she might stop laying soon.

Yeah, I am not a fan of that place. The ducks were still there, in a smaller pen--not huddling though. HOWEVER, they had the medicine I needed.

Check it out: these were my chickens. I wonder what is wrong with them? She made such a stink about taking the pullets when only the roo was for sale (that is Shanks in the picture). You can tell they are my old ones because--well that is Shanks, and in the middle is Goldie--the pullet that was NOT all CM. She had yellow legs, beak, and gold neck. Oh yeah, and I hatched them on 9/25.

You can sneak the chicks under her at night, otherwise, she probably won't accept them.

Where'd you get the chicks?

I was wondering about this picture, I saw it too..What it tells me is that you can't believe a lot of what you read on Craigslist and she probably disided that she wanted a different kind after she got those or even found a different kind that she likes better

Happy Saturday everyone!

I have something that is worrying me about our 4 chicks. We still have them in a bin with heat lamp, etc. We picked up some of the TerrAmigo pine pellets for bedding in the coop once it's finished.

We put the bedding in their bin as well and they love it! They love it so much that they're dust bathing in it, and EATING bits of it, and choosing to eat it over their actual food. Can this hurt them?? I'm worried about the wood fragments in their digestive systems...

We took the pellets out of their bin and put back in the paper towels. Will this be something they might grow out of? Have you all dealt with this before??

thanks,

I used wood pellets from the start and I did see them gobble one down occasionally.

It is supposed to break down once wet but if they are eating it like food as toy say...that is an issue.
I'm not sure what to do. Maybe use paper towels over the pellets for now?

Newspaper can be too slippery, it may cause problems with their legs unless you cover it with paper towels or something.
I used newspaper covered with paper towels the first couple of weeks for mine.
