Who's the little americauna in your avatar? She's so cute.

Aw, thank you! She's a little hen I was blessed to have for about a year, gifted from a neighbor who'd lost the rest of her flock to predators except this girl. My grandkids named her Snowball. Unfortunately, I found a huge scattering of her feathers in the corral one day, but no Snowball. Hawk attack likely. I'll probably always keep her photo as my avatar.

How many chickens do you have ?

Well, let's see...... 41 total at the moment. That includes 2 mature roosters, 2 cockerels (24 and 28 weeks old), 7 pullets who aren't yet laying, and the rest - 30 hens and pullets who are all laying (at last check they were, anyway.) My flock varies through the year from 40-50 in winter, to near 100 in early summer with all the youngsters I've hatched.

Aww thank you! That girl is Snowball, RIP. She was given to us with one other hen, the last survivors of a flock traumatized by predators and the owner didn't want to deal with chickens anymore. She was eventually taken by either a fox or hawk in our corral. All I found were a massive scattering of her feathers. It was only about a week after this photo was taken. I think I'll keep it.
