As far as chickens go, yes as an adult. My parents kept RIR's, Red Rocks and Leghorns when I was very young. So did my grandparents. I have kept lots of parrots and quail over the years too. Still do. Oh, and can't forget the dog. Ha! Do you keep any other birds, pets, etc...?

Yes, I am working on getting them out of the house this week into a larger brooder in an outdoor building. I have 3 new babies that will go into a flock of 4 adult chickens. How many babies do you have to introduce?
I hear you! Mine are still in the brooder at 4 weeks old. But when they are 6 weeks old, they are going into an enclosure within the chicken run and aside from sleeping in the coop in their own cage at night, they will stay in this enclosure for several months till they get big enough. I REALLY hope my older flock excepts the new babies!!! So I share your concern on mixing in your babies!
Me too!!! That's why I got some Barred Rock babies this year since my girls are 3 years old. I am with you, I could never eat my babies. They have forever homes here, laying or not.
Haha! I hear you! My girls are 3 this year and going fairly well in the egg laying department. I have one that is unable to put a shell on anymore....yolks ALL over the place. What a mess!!
Don't you just hate when they molt? I have a hen that goes out of commission for ever after a molt! Haha! -
