Pros: Content variety, good for scratch
Cons: Not so good for limited budgets
My Red Sex Links seemed to enjoy the variety of different seeds and grains, instead of ordinary pellets. It's also useful for scratch because the pieces are quite small. They liked this feed a lot, but they required a lot of it to keep up their egg production. Don't get this feed is your chickens aren't free range. Once I bought it accidentally and the egg production plummeted! However I find that is quite satisfactory for free range chickens.
Pros: Personal anecdotes, true stories, very interesting
Cons: Needs more information on various subjects
This is a great book if you just want to sit down and have a laugh, while still learning about chickens. The personal experiences in the book keep it interesting. The stories of the contributors are easy to relate to, making it a very easy book to read. You will love the excellent photography!! However if you are new to chicken keeping, you will need another, more informative book to help you, while using this book as complementary to it.
Pros: Personal experience, common sense
Cons: A lot of reading involved
This book covers just about everything you need to know about keeping chickens. Advice for every chicken keeper, whether you keep them for eggs or meat. Lovely full-colour photographs. The personal stories of the author make the book both interesting and humorous. Keep in mind there's a lot of reading to get through!
Pros: Simply written, easy to understand
Cons: None
If you are new to chicken keeping, I would recommend this book. It is simply written and includes plenty of good, easy recipes. It is ideal for those living in Australia but can also be helpful for those living elsewhere. It's full of simple suggestions, humour and good common sense. Enjoy the book!

Pros: Good layers, nice big eggs, rarely go broody, very friendly and sweet-tempered
Cons: Not the prettiest chicken
I've found Red Stars to be very good layers, and some of their eggs are enormous. If you are looking for a chicken with a good personality, then I would recommend a star. They are usually good 'people-chickens' and will try to get into your house to be with you! However if you're after show chickens, stars are not the prettiest chickens around. Also keep in mind that sometimes (not often) they can be prone to bullying other hens.
