Easter Eggers

Very nice birds. Very fun to have with small childeren, they love the blue, green, olive eggs. I have to admit, there is something magical about those eggs..brings out the kid in me every time I gather them.

Love the 2 hens we have they have super personalities and lay adorable eggs....that is until it got cold. No more eggs this winter. I would say they would be perfect in warmer climates maybe the egg laying would not stop completely.

I'd love to have more...

These are sweet birds! Curious and affectionate, I have heard that these are slow to mature. One of mine lays an olive green egg. They are all friendly and quirky.

I have 4 Easter Eggers. 3 of GREAT layers and I get about 6 eggs a week from each.

I hasn't started laying. 2 of the easter eggers are very friendly and let me hold them. 1 is skittish. 1 follows me around but is a little snooty. She is not the friendliest of the hens to me or the other hens. She isn't mean just b*tchy.

I have 5 EE hens. They are super flighty. I love their different patterns and colors and they lay pretty eggs. So its a trade off I guess. Plus, I am used to the gentle and laid back orpingtons.

Fairly reliable layers, but a smaller egg than some of my other hens. They make for a pretty egg basket, though!

These are my favorite birds so far. Of my flock, these are the ones who come running to greet me, and jump into my lap if i sit down. Unlike some of the other breeds i've tried, they did not get "wild" when making the transition into adulthood. I have since bought a few adult hens that tended to be more shy and flighty, but in time I have won them over. I have had 3 different rooster so far, and all 3 were different. They can be overly protective of their hens, depending on the individual rooster. My current rooster will spur me if i come up too quickly, but he is very gentle with his flock and newcomers to the flock (after slowly being introduced) I have seen him protect youngsters from the flock bullies and he feeds the chicks as though they are his own. He always gives the best tidbits to the hens, and is happy to be held and petted if i approach slowly. I edited to add that for the more timid ones, hand feeding treats does wonders. Mine go nuts over bananas, but like any treat don't go overboard!

Our EE was great until about a year old when she turned into a terrible bully and "got sent to the farm."

We didn't get more EEs, nor do we plan to.

I love my Easter Eggers ..

I only have one Easter Egger, but it is my intention over the next five years to obtain an entire Easter Egger flock. The personality of my bird is friendly and spunky. She is equal to, if not better than a silky when it comes to ease of handling, and human attachment. If you are looking for a pet quality bird, look no farther than the easter egger!

They are nice to look at because of their variety in color and egg color. However, they are nervous birds, more so than my White Leghorns and their food to egg ration is low; meanining they are not the best layer out there.

These are fun birds to have. The color of their chick down often isn't a good indicator of what they'll look like as adults, so it's a neat guessing game as to their final plumage. The downside is that they cannot be shown and people often pass them off as Ameraucanas to unsuspecting customers. They are good layers and I have had one prove her worth as a broody hen.
