Plastic Nesting Box

I have two of these. They are nice and big, well made and sturdy.

If you're not a craftsy person, I'd recommend getting it. However, if possible I'd say make your own vs buying this. It's nothing special, but does as it's advertised. Really no complaint on design, except I feel it's a bit small. My standard sized hens refused to use it.

I have 6 of these I caught on sale. At first the New Jersey Giants ignored them and I removed the wooden nest box setup they had. They lay in the boxes and break very, very few.
They install in minutes and can be relocated just as quick.

My EE were jumping the fence to lay in the woods and they had plenty off places at home to lay. I mounted these to the back of our garage and they took to them immediately.

I have has the same hang on the Wall nest box for 7 years. For the $20 it cost it was well worth it. Easy to relocate unlike custom built boxes for exact areas. Cleaning with a scrub brush and oil soap every now and again is a big bonus too. Opening has been large enough for my biggest hens and two determined bantams can fit in there with ease.

We bought 2 of these boxes about a year ago and put them in the coop before the girls started laying. They have been used every day for over six months by 5 to 9 chickens. We had one girl that preferred the corner on the floor for a while but eventually she started using a box.
We have been happy with them and our girls seem to like them. We added a third box before our pullets started laying just in case. Our Australorp pullets are big girls and they have no problem using them. With the newbies figuring things out there have been a couple broken eggs. I simply took the box off the wall, rinsed it out and rehung when dry.
It's very hot and dry here and the plastic isn't brittle, no cracks or damage in any way. Very happy we opted for these rather than building wood boxes.

I picked two of these up at Tractor Supply about six months ago. I should note that I have nesting boxes in the coop already, but I wanted to change things up so that it was easier to clean and to have the floor of the coop clear of 'coop furniture" (the nesting boxes I have now are made from an old chest of drawers that sits on the ground, so if I got rid of that my hens would have more space to run around). I thought these plastic boxes would be perfect for my needs. However, my girls don't like them and don't use them. I had maybe two or three eggs laid in them total out of the last six months or so that I've had them. I think my girls are not using them because they are used to lots of space in their box. They are standard sized hens.

I gave the product 2 and a half stars because I didn't feel it deserved one star or even two, since someone might have better luck with their flock. Its hard to rate because the design is good. It was so easy to attach these to the wall and they are very easy to clean. However, at $20 per box, it can get quite expensive, and for a piece of plastic that probably only cost less than a dollar of material to make, you know you are getting jipped, which doesn't reflect too wonderfully on the company, but I understand they have to make a profit. I bought it anyway just because it was a whole lot easier than the long arduous task of making a set of wooden nesting boxes one can hang on the wall. Plastic is so much easier to keep clean too. Lighter in weight as well.

To the company, I would say make them a bit larger though with a deeper floor so that when a hen sits her head is popping up out of the window. I'd prefer to pay $10 to $15 for each rather than $20. Its a great idea though.... just needs some fine tuning.

First nest boxes I have ever had and overall they are pretty good, but there are a lot of things I have problems with. I couldn't even fit them into the cons section... Homemade nest boxes work twice as well.

We initially built nest boxes and didn't do a very good job, I'm afraid,although the did use them. So we bought one of these on a whim and hung it up in the coop. The girls started using it immediately. We now have 6 of them stacked in two rows of 3 and they are in constant use. Even my Buff and Light Brahmas fit into them, although I do admit it's a tight fit. We have long since ripped out the old ones.

The biggest advantage I've found is that they are so easy to take off the wall that when one of our girls went broody we were able to take her chosen nest down, move it into the pen that had previously been used for a couple of batches of shipped chicks, and she was barely disturbed.

We bought these because our local Agway was having a major sale and we decided that they would probably easy to clean for beginners like us. We also bought our first 6 chicks (about 2 weeks old) at the same time. We put them in the coop the same day and within a week our chicks have been in and out of them a million times. We shall see if they actually use them to lay their eggs. Also this is a semi biased review as we have no experience with any other nesting boxes! **UPDATE: These boxes are so easy to keep clean, we are loving them and out of all the nesting boxes we have, 2 of them are these boxes and they are the only ones our chickens use! Super thumbs up!

My girls don't use them at all. Had them for over a month. Girls not buying it. They don't like them.

I paid $18 for this Nest Box to put inside my coop. I have 5 on-the-floor built in nest boxes that are perfectly dark and spacious and lovely...but the girls like this one and that is fine...LOL. Sometimes there are two in there wanting to lay with a 3rd on the foot rail waiting her turn. If I had enough wall space I would buy another one. But it would just get pooped on. Not that it matters I guess because these clean up like a charm. I can tell the girls feel very private and comfortable in them. And when one is not feeling well I've found them in this nest box resting.

It's just a nice product. They've done their homework with the dimensions, the visibility slots, the perch, the cleanability, ease of setting it up, Likability by the hens....Two Thumbs up for this product.

I think this would be great for small or medium birds. I never considered my Wyandottes as very large birds but they barely fit in the entrance, and refused to go in and use the nest box.

Basically a nice design. Since they are easily removed from the wall, they appear to be easily cleaned with a garden hose if need be. Our wooden nest box fell apart and the hens didn't blink an eye with these new boxes.

My only concern is that the front edge of the actual box is a little too shallow. The hens are constantly kicking the shavings out onto the floor of the coop.

I have 9 chickens and 2 of these boxes. Sure, everyone starts out with lofty plans of homemade eggboxes with trays and doors and whatnots.. We did too. And then we were weeks into building the coop and frankly we were feeling DONE. I found these on sale at Tractor Supply for $17.99 each and just went with it.

I'm glad I did, the girls like them a lot and it's easy to pull them off the wall, even with a chicken in it (you gotta get those broodies out there somehow..) I have only one stubborn bird who keeps laying her egg under the roosts, the others will wait patiently for their turn in the box. It's cute, when one of my birds went broody she kept occupying a box and the other girls would hop around impatiently, like a child waiting to use the bathroom.

They're a little awkward to get into, they may be better suited for slightly smaller chickens, but it's never a real issue for the girls. They make it work.

Purchased 2 of these for my 6 hens. They took to them immediately and work well.

With all of the bantam breeders, you would think a company would consider making these nest boxes in a bantam size as well as large fowl.

We were originally going to build our own boxes, but as we neared the end of our coop build, we decided we'd had enough hammering for one lifetime. Went to Del's and bought 2 of these, and I'm really glad I did. They're easy to clean, the sloped roof keeps the birds from roosting/pooping on it, and all the chickens have been happy to use it. I was afraid my Girls would be too big to use it, but even my brahma fits in nicely. I'm cheap by nature, and I built my coop with lots of reclaimed/repurposed items, but I'm really glad I dropped money on these nest boxes.

Well I like it. Just wish it weren't so darn expensive.
