Star

Black Star and Red Star are trade names used for hybrids of two other recognized breeds, not...
Pros: Sweet, friendly, hardy, lays well, pretty--especially in the sun.
Cons: She's got a big mouth! Noisy...
I love my little BS. She's the only one that I can scoop up any time I want and snuggle. I can even make vroom vroom sounds and fly her through the air like a plane;) If I lost her, I'd replace her again in a heartbeat. Much friendlier than the Easter Eggers.

Pros: great layer, easy going, very pretty
Cons: None!
the gold stars i have are a wonderful layer of big brown eggs, almost every day. they are very easy to tame and great pets. the rich reddish brown infused with white is very pretty. They are very inquisitive. One of mine is named Nosy-always where she shouldn't be! In the kitty litter, the rabbit pens, ect.

They seem to get along well especially with my Australorps. overall VERY happy with these birds.

Pros: Good eggs
Cons: Agressive
Thye put good egss but they atack my ducks, and i sold the chickens

Pros: Pretty, fast growers, eggs (not sure yet)
Cons: Kinda skidish
This is my favorite looking bird so far. She is a little ove a month old now and she looks like a full grown bantam size chicken. They must grow fast. The only thing I am not so fond of is that she is a little more skiddish than the others. This is in comparison to some very calm and friendly chickens though.

I do like her and I though about getting another next year.
Pros: Early layers
Cons: None yet
My two Red Stars were born February 12, the same day as the B.Os., RIRs, and Barred Rocks--total of 11 hens. The Red Stars both started laying at exactly 16 weeks old. None of the others have started laying yet at 17 1/2 weeks.

They are easy to handle and don't cause me any trouble. As someone else mentioned, they are not the most interesting chickens, but right now they are my favorite because I am getting two eggs everyday!

Pros: Nice looking Chickens
Cons: Cannibals
I have 48 Red Stars they are housed in a 12x48 space. They are 6 months old and have lots of room to run outside and inside. Lately they are pecking on each other to the point of killing each other. I am not sure why, they get plenty of food and water. Anyone have any ideas. I am beginning to not like this type of chick at all.
Pros: easy going bird, good egg production
Cons: sex linked markings does not continue in future generations.
I have a half dozen pullets in my flock. They are nice birds. They are calm and good foragers.they should last pretty well in a few months. Cockerels could even produce a decent fryer. Because it is a hybrid, the sex link characteristic does not appear in further generations. That's kind of a negative if you wanted to breed your own birds.
Pros: prolific layers, curious and friendly, great foragers
Cons: hybird mystery
I was given my Black Sex-links by the parents of a teen who wanted chickens and tired of taking care of them. They were bought from a Tractor Supply. They became some of my favorite hens because they were so friendly, curious, and great foragers -- even eating slugs, to my eternal joy. The only issues I had were that both, for some reason, were irrisistable to every roo I had (3 in all) and one became bald on her back and had to wear an apron. Her sister I lost to a racoon, but I still have her, and she lays absolutely huge mishapen eggs. I have heard other complain that these over-producers succumb to ovarian cancer more often than their less productive sisters, so there is some potential heartbreak. Nice birds, but I thnk I wold rather have a breed whose genetics are more predictable.

My Black Sex-link is a very good hen. She's the Head Hen I've noticed. Very friendly, eats out of my hand, won't let me pick her up though. She's 5 years old and still a consistant layer. No complaints here!
Pros: Entertaining and good with kids
Cons: Dont trust tractor supply
I purchased originally 6 and a lady at the store talked us into buying the last one. Well on the 99 percent chance of them being pullets i now have 3 cockerels.
Kinda bummed that my first go around with chickens i have a minimum of 2 that need to go but overall very friendly and curious. great first time chicks, my 5 year old daughter is very hands on and they sit there and perch and even let her lay them on their backs. May have been partially off subject for a bit but great for the price, cant wait to start getting eggs
Pros: Calm, hoping for many eggs
Cons: None yet
Just wanted to say I did not get these chickens for ages because I thought they would be ugly, like the pic in the catalog was so boring looking or something. Well I got some 12 wks ago from mcmurray and they are not at all ugly, they are cute, red with pretty white tail feathers.
Pros: Docile, wonderful layers of light brown eggs, outgoing personality
Cons: none
This is my favorite chicken. I only got one because she wasn't a 'pure bred', however, I wouldn't think twice about getting a whole flock of these for laying. They are very docile, have wonderful personalities, they are dual purpose. They lay large light brown eggs. Winter hearty; had mine confined all winter with a light in the coop to keep it warm. She is my most consistent layer of all my hens. She lays EVERYDAY, even in the winter and she has the most wonderful sweet personality of all my hens.
Pros: playful
Cons: eat a lot
They are a good and exciting breed.

Pros: Great Layer
Cons: None
I have a Red Star and she is GREAT. She is an amazing layer. She has not missed a day for atleast 3 months. She is really friendly too. She is cold hardy, and her laying doesn't slow down in the winter. I love her!!!
Pros: Able to know what sex you are getting
Cons: ours just seem 'skiddish' at times.
The wonderful thing about red sex-links for people new to chickens would be the ability to confidently know for sure what gender you are buying. If you only want hens then this might be a good choice for you. We have 6 of these wonderful birds, all females. They are calm and GREAT large brown egg layers! Many hatcheries create their own brand names for sex link chickens.
Pros: great egg laying mine are great layers
great layers and great personalites
