What did you do in the garden today?

Well it's warmer today than they predicted, surprise surprise... I did manage to spray the grapes, roses, and one apple tree with copper fungicide. Also pruned tomatoes to make sure they had good air flow around the bottom. Collected some chamomile flowers and then decided to quit for now...

What did you do in the garden today?

Picked another 4-6 cups of blackberries this morning. Going to have a bumper crop of them, I think. Pruning that bed did wonders! Not to mention the wild blackberries that will be ready in July... On the down side, fungus is doing a number on my grapes because of all the rain. Lost over HALF...

What did you do in the garden today?

I'm pretty sure the grass and weeds are growing at 10x the rate of my garden. 🙄 I feel like my tomatoes, green beans, and cantaloupe should all be WAY bigger than they are after all this rain.... About the only thing that's growing robustly is my squash (spaghetti, pumpkins, cushaw, and zucchini).

What did you do in the garden today?

It's been in the upper 80s all week. Hot and humid... But tomorrow and Friday we are expecting a 10 degree drop... 👏 I'm going to take advantage of the nice weather to spray fruit (peaches, grapes, apples, etc) and then FINALLY get around to bagging grapes and maybe some more peaches. I did...

What did you do in the garden today?

The timer for the automatic chicken door on my bachelor coop has been broken for several weeks now. I finally managed to get around to building a new timer to trigger the actuator today. Cost me about $50 in parts but it works a lot nicer than the cheap Chinese junk timer that came with the...

What did you do in the garden today?

June Drop is a tree's natural thinning process. It's called June Drop but it actually happens at different times, depending on your climate zone. Mine typically happens in late May... Anyway, your tree will naturally drop fruit for two reasons - 1. It will drop fruit that wasn't properly...

What did you do in the garden today?

It's very simple... 😂 2 cups cane sugar 2 cups water 2 cups blackberries Heat sugar and water on medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Add blackberries, bring to a boil on medium heat, stirring occasionally. Lower to a simmer, mash berries. Remove from heat and strain into a mason jar. Allow...

What did you do in the garden today?

Well, we've now had SIX+ inches of rain in 3 days. Supposed to rain again this afternoon. Peaches and garden (and grass, weeds.....) are loving it. I'm afraid to look at the corn plot. It was already under water yesterday before the additional 2 inches of rain last night. Something tells me I'm...

What did you do in the garden today?

According to the rain gauges in the garden, we've had 4 inches of rain in the past 2 days. Likely getting another inch+ tonight.... My corn is under water yet again. 😕 And I've clearly got a cutworm out there... Already lost several stalks of corn. :he On a more positive note, got my first...

What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, my trees are really tall too... Probably 15 ft at this point. I am using a ladder to bag as many as I can... Hoping the bugs will focus on the exposed fruit and it'll be a good compromise. 😂 I will still spray occasionally but I'm really trying to limit chemicals and be as organic as...

What did you do in the garden today?

Speaking of mulberries... I found a hidden mulberry tree on my property today! 😂 I have a wooded tree line between my property and my neighbor. It's usually got a lot of thick underbrush so I don't crawl through there. Well the neighbor decided to get a property survey done and they cleared...

    WTH is THIS? Cancer?

I'm going to talk to him on Monday to get a better idea of the cost. If it's under $100, I might be able to do it. If it's likely more than that, my DH will murder me if I do it... It's going to be a fight anyway probably. To him, it's livestock. For me, they are more like pets... I also want...

    WTH is THIS? Cancer?

Here's the response from the poultry vet/Professor from the Poultry Department at the University of Arkansas. They have quite an extensive research center up there thanks to Tyson. 😔

    WTH is THIS? Cancer?

I'm not sure of her weight. She is too flighty to be put on a scale. As for meds, I have Doxycycline, Metronidazole, or Amoxicillan that I can give her. I haven't given her anything yet except Calcium Citrate. The portion of her belly that's hanging down and extended is about baseball sized...

    WTH is THIS? Cancer?

Her vent isn't prolapsed. Her vent looks normal. This is about 2 inches below her vent.

    WTH is THIS? Cancer?

Noticed yesterday that one of my hens looked egg bound from behind. I managed to catch her and clean her up a bit. First of all, she is eating, drinking, and pooping just fine. She is very alert and acting totally normal. She's quite a spaz actually... I do NOT think she is laying but I'm not...

What did you do in the garden today?

Well, the things I'm learning about bagging fruit... 1. Don't waste your time trying to bag tiny peaches because most of them will drop anyway. Wait until they are golf ball size at least before choosing what to bag and thin around it. (Note, this lesson learned is still subject to further...

What did you do in the garden today?

I grew up with weeping willows and love them. I've planted 3 of them next to our pond over the past 4 years. All of them died within 6 months due to our annual summer drought during July - September. 🙄 I finally gave up trying...
