What did you do in the garden today?

Well it's warmer today than they predicted, surprise surprise... I did manage to spray the grapes, roses, and one apple tree with copper fungicide. Also pruned tomatoes to make sure they had good air flow around the bottom. Collected some chamomile flowers and then decided to quit for now. Sweating so much it looks like I went swimming with my clothes on. Went inside to take a shower and get some water. I'll bag fruit later tonight when it's cooler.

I'm in moderate dry d1.

Picked another 4-6 cups of blackberries this morning. Going to have a bumper crop of them, I think. Pruning that bed did wonders! Not to mention the wild blackberries that will be ready in July...

On the down side, fungus is doing a number on my grapes because of all the rain. Lost over HALF of them already! 😭 Going to spray today... Both rose bushes next to the grapes have also lost ALL their leaves. Smh...

I'm also convinced that the soil in my garden area is either depleted, too wet, or has something going on with it. Nothing in the ground is growing well over there. Very slow and stunted. After this season, I'm going to work a bunch of compost and leaf mulch in, cover it for the winter, and just let it sit for 4-5 months. Everything that is growing away from that area is doing well, except the corn cause it's still under water.
When we get A LOT of rain my veggies slow down. The rain dilutes the nutrients from the soil because they are taking up so much liquid. They always look almost anemic. When you get a dry day maybe give them a dose of fish emulsion fertilizer etc and I bet they will perk right up and grow like gangbusters!
