Two of my silkie hens hatched out a few chicks 2 weeks ago. A few days ago, I noticed one of the hens sneezing every once in a while but had no other signs of illness. Then today one of the chicks started sneezing and was vomiting clear liquid that looked like water. I didn't actually see it...
Probably not, looks pet quality to me. However, my silkies aren't that great either and I still take them to local shows just for fun! So maybe you could do that also.
Yes, they all have 5 toes and none of them have split or twisted wings. I thought I should probably get rid of rooster 1 on account of his unnaturally long tail! So is the most important trait in silkies foot feathering? Or is body type more important? When you say: #2, then #3... Get rid of #4...
I am going to find new homes for some of my silkies and I need help deciding which ones to keep and which ones to sell. I know that none of these are show quality, but which ones do you think are the closest? I only want to keep one of the roosters and I only want to sell one of the hens. So let...
Well, I was going to come to this show but now it looks like I'm not going to make it. My van is stuck sideways at the top of our hill after attempting to drive out on the ice this morning. So I hope ya'll have fun!
How do yours turn green and purple??? I don't have any horse manure//green spot out spray and I wouldn't have time to get it, as the show's tomorrow. Whitening toothpaste is a good idea, but I think it would probably just get all gross and sticky. Thanks for the ideas though!
I'm going to a chicken show tomorrow and I have a problem. I washed one of my white silkies yesterday and accidentally used too much bluing. I noticed that his wet feathers were blue, while his dry feathers were white. So I thought that once he completely dried he would be totally white. Well...
I think the easiest thing to do right now is to keep my eyes open for sikies at local shows. I have decided to get a full-grown sikie so I will know for sure the gender and quality. Thanks for all the advice!

Hey emzee! Welcome!! We're just down in Homer
Wow, you're probably the closest person to me that I've found on BYC!
Sorry about that! I guess to me, silkies are the only chickens in the world so I didn't even catch it when I didn't specify what breed! I edited it to change that and I also decided that I can only afford one at this point.
I would like to buy a show quality bearded B/B/S silkie hen that is between 6 months and 1 year old. I can't pay for shipping, so I would like to buy her from someone who lives in northeast Georgia. I'm on a budget, so I can't spend a fortune on her. I would also like to see pictures before I...
