Today and tomorrow are the last two days of relatively cool weather. I'll be working in the garden to try to make up for taking the weekend off. But the weekend was full of fun things, so it was an ok trade off.
One of our neighbors is going to take out their lawn; it's a pain to mow due to the topography. They're putting in wildflowers instead. They also bought a bunch of trees to plant on their property, and one of them is a tulip poplar. Those can be literally dripping with nectar in the spring...
Hubby said the best honey he ever tasted was buckwheat. :thumbsup
I can still do it, but you're right... the getting up is harder than it used to be!
I do all the stuff I used to do, but more slowly, and with more breaks. My goal is to keep being able to do it, no matter what speed.
I think I won't get anymore of the black raspberries, as the birds have found them. Oh well. Two batches of jam, and a good lesson on making jam with honey. I call that a win.
Nothing done out there today. We had a long, chatty lunch with friends that took most of the afternoon. I'll get out...
Has anyone been to a honey tasting room? I thought that would be an up and coming thing, but all I'm finding is mead. I want to taste different honeys, not mead.
I like milkweeds out in the field. That's another one I've had to keep on top of to keep out of the garden.
But out in the field? You go, milkweed! You and goldenrod can just take off and spread and feed the bees!
As I empty my garden beds, I'm planting buckwheat as a ground cover. I don't...
The word "bake" has a silent e at the end. So do a lot of words.
When people say, "Mm-bye now," the mm is said, but not spelled. Same with (c)rap music. The c is often not said, but it should be!
Please post pictures as your garden grows and blooms, @drstratton!
I planted plants for the honeybees down one side of part of my garden. The only one that has been a total success is New England Aster. They love it! It blooms during the autumn, when there isn't much else in bloom.
The clumps...
I used to not like goldenrod at all. It spreads, it gets really tall, and you can't get rid of it if it get a roothold. I don't mind it out in the field, but it needs to stay there.
Then I found out honeybees love it! I still don't let it get started in the gardens, but now I love it out in...
I learned about breast blisters here on BYC. People have posted a picture of a chicken's breast area, around the keel bone, asking, what is this thing sticking out of my chicken? It was a finger-sized bit of pus from the keel bone rubbing on the roost. Not really common, I guess, but it...
We have said for, uh, years, that we want to get a dumpster back here and clean out:
The garage
The basement
The other junk in other places.
Maybe this fall. I hope so. We have so much junk.
A friend planted hundreds of pine tree to sell as Christmas trees in a few years. Many/most of them died in our hot spell a couple weeks ago. We're going to get another hot spell this coming week.
Me too! No computers!
Everything was run by big (HUGE!) belts connected to tractors. Except for the sawmill; that best was connected to a coal fired steam engine from a train.
I haven't downloaded the pictures from my phone yet.
