Is there a color breeding chart out there? I know genetics are WAY more complicated than just SPLASH X BLACK = BLUE. I also know that history plays a factor too, like with the white genes.
I had a white frizzle rooster breed with all my hens:
Gold laced
Yellow/Black
White
Buff
Mille Fleur...
Just be careful. They are protected here in Hawaii, so you'll need to get a permit to keep them. Even though they are coming from a reputable dealer on the mainland(where they aren't protected), does not mean it's cool to raise them here. I would check with the HSDOA, just in case. Wouldn't...
Burmese is a breed that was almost completely extinct. They re-bred it by crossing large fowl sultans, booted bantams, and polish bantams, then crossed it back to an original male.
Burmese have 4 toes, yellow legs, single combs, crests, and fully feathered legs. They are true bantams.
so sorry for the extremely late reply. Theres no need to have papers prior to ordering. All hatcheries charge us a special box in fee which includes permits with the USDA. Just make sure you order at least 2 weeks in advance.
I think it all depends on how the geese are raised. Many people will claim Chinese are sweet, while others think they're loud and mean. same for Africans or Embdens. I've had all three once, and now I have buffs. I have to say the buffs have proven to be the quietest and calmest. But...
as goslings grow up, the ganders are usually the first to approach. Females will always be cautious. When they get older, try holding them. Females are more likely to accept being confined, and will lightly nibble clothes. Ganders will try hard to escape, and try to bite their way out. You...
We went on a trip for 10 days, and our geese welcomed us with open wings and the loudest and longest amount of honking. Our gander took a while to get used to us again, but there was no hissing or attacking. They were just really cautious. Not the reaction you would get from a dog, but...
The names of MY geese are Pax and Prim. They're buff Americans. I looked up Regal names online and found those. For geese I think regal names work best, although some cute names could suffice, like Dusty and Laces. My partner wanted to name them Beep and Honk.
I came home today and found my goose's beak chipped. The very tip (egg tooth area) is chipped off. Right now it's sort of hanging there. It looks like she may be in pain. She's not the sort to hang out with her beak in her back feathers. Now she won't take it out. There's no blood, but i...
Yes, a lot of wind eggs, and about 8 small bantam eggs. Probably considered Pee Wee eggs if you bought eggs at an egg farm. I used to blow out all my eggs when the girls were on antibiotics, so I have tons of eggs in boxes all over the place. I gotta get to crafting them soon. I tried...
at four months, that comb and wattle is too big and red for a pullet. I raise cochins, and the comb and wattles dont turn red until they start laying. And they're never that big until they're about a year old.
I know this is an old thread, but I just opened a dozen eggs I had sitting on a shelf for about 2 years. I've been collecting fart eggs, and super tiny first eggs, and completely forgot about them. Actually, everytime I saw the tray I told myself I NEED to get to blowing those out. There was...
I just purchased two 2-week old American Buff goslings. I'm super stoked, because I've been eyeing this breed out for a while! I've raised day-old goslings before, but not 2 week-old goslings. I'm sure its the same, but these goslings were reared by adult geese, so I think they're a little...
This chick's mother was a frizzled cochin, and father was a black silkie. No head crest, muffs, nor beard. Has a fifth toe, black skin, and pea comb. Wing feathers are curling, but they aren't quite feathers like his brothers/sisters, they look more silkie-ish. Could they be frizzled silkie...
Ideal is my go-to hatchery. Cochin Bantams: the mottled and buff females are real small and have no cushion form in their tail feathering, they're pointed. The reds have little to no leg feathering. The gold-laced are real nice, but the lacing is really messy. The birchens are beautiful...
Hey Everyone!
I'm Brandon from Kailua, O`ahu. I've been lurking on this thread for a while, but somehow thought I introduced myself. I guess not. Maybe it was another Hawaii thread.
I raise Cochin bantams. I bought a white cochin pair from Ko`olau Pets in Kane`ohe back in 2011 (PS...
I know this thread is a few months old.....but Koolau Pets in Windward Mall used to hatch their own chicks. I think one of the employees has Cochins and brought in the eggs to hatch in their incubator within the store. Now that they moved to a new location within the mall, I don't see the...
A dog attacked our little buff bantam Cochin, and she has 3 huge gashes under her right wing. There are a few scratches under the left wing, but nothing major. We used Hydrogen Peroxide to rinse out the wounds, then used triple antibiotic ointment(not the no-pain version). We covered the...
