Hello!
I will be going this year, and I have more dorkings than I can currently handle. Most hatched Sept 7 or Sept 21. Colors from black to silver grey to probably cuckoo. (Sorry, don't currently have exact numbers offhand at the moment, since it's dark, I have to many, and they run around...
Not sure where you are moving to in VA, but make sure you have a place for them when you get there.... if you don't already have your home ready to move in to!
Hotels and apartments will often take many pets with a pet deposit, but a group of chickens (esp. a rooster) is not looked upon very...

Hi!
I'm near Louisville. I have family in Alabama that I'm planning to visit soon, so you may not have to make that whole drive if you want to meet along the way. Just PM me.
Hi everyone-
In case you're wondering what you can get from Sandhill's black dorkings, these are mine that I have to put up for sale:
I can say that if I wasn't moving that I wouldn't be selling them. They lay large, white eggs and the rooster is a great to the hens and never a problem...
Black dorkings for sale due to move!
These great black dorkings are only up for sale due to an upcoming move. I have to reduce or eliminate my flock.
These black dorkings were carefully selected from many chicks out of Sand Hill's black dorking stock to be the hardiest (healthy, haven't been...
I have a moving issue also - it's tough to give up the ones we love, isn't it????
Moving rare dorkings and favorelles if possible - if not, then I can't keep them in a hotel. They would have to go. I will be moving to NE VA.
I would be willing to pay for boarding, food, etc. and if you were...
Thank you Mame, I will try and give that a shot - I hope I didn't wait too long
In three weeks I'll be in a hotel and I'll have to go the Craig's list route. I really really really do not want to do that.
I really appreciate the idea!

Oh, I feel so sad for you! I hope I am not faced with the same issue when I move in a couple of years. I wish I was closer - I would take them from you. Please post here again if no one answers - sometimes posts get lost. Good luck!
Thanks so much. I really hate to do this. I've...
*Sigh*
After quite a bit of thought I decided there is no other way I can do this;Sadly, I have to sell the favs I have (and likely many of the Dorkings too) since I will be moving to VA next month and living in a hotel for awhile.
The pics are a little old by now and I'm afraid that by the...
Hello everyone!
I haven't been on in awhile (and don't get a chance to much lately) but if anyone is seriously interested in Dorkings, I would like to recommend a book for you:

The book description doesn't really do this book justice. It draws...
AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I hate hive beetles.......
Tried to check honey stores and found stupid beetles on lid. &$(#*&$(@*&!!!!!!
Not as bad as when I had bees in the deep south, but I didn't think they were supposed to be like this here. At least I didn't find 'maggots' in the honey (yet)...

Might be a long list for a poll. I don't know if anyone else here raises dorkings- I know a few others have favs (Henry is a big supporter and there is a thread here.) I posted about my red dorkings on #1100 but either nobody else has hints/tips, or the feedback is so bad it can't be...
I agree, best that they didn't buy.... sometimes people that indicate they don't like something can later cause problems.
We had five acre lots in our old neighborhood, and were one of the first builders who lived there for several years before anyone else moved in.
We had bee hives out in...

Good reading.
012 Organic and Other Methods of Fire Ant Control - basically a review of what works and what doesn't
May depend on when your trip is planned and what you're interested in-
Botanical Gardens?
Quaint Towns?
Liquor tours?
71 ends at Louisville, so there is quite a bit around those parts.
The GOOD masks are NIOSH approved in the US. You can still use the disposable masks, as long as they have a NIOSH rating, preferably N95 or higher. It's just harder to get a good seal around the face with a filtering facepiece than with a cartridge type respirator. Sorry, a sleeve to your face...
Although I will let people come to the house- there are a few things I do to keep down weirdness:
Screened calls for overall "creepiness"
Turning, winding roads (no quick getaways) and neighbors
Anxious, barking dogs that don't care for strangers
Tall husband
A separate "quarantine/sale"...
Bob, It's a good thing I moved from Mobile to Louisville last year because I probably would have bugged you to death about chickens. I've just been reading this thread every chance I get.
I really wish I had gotten a chance to meet the legends of poultry- I hope to meet many of the people...
