I've been good, lurking occasionally. Probably gonna get more chicks soon. The 9 of the surviving original chicks i got are gonna be turning 4 tomorrow.
So I have a baby, egg was hatching, and flys got to it and when I saw it it was filled with baby maggots. I took it inside, broke the shell, put it under a heat lamp and flushed the maggots off. There was one in its nose and another in its mouth I couldn't get. And it's navel/umbilical thing is...
It died an hour ago. Flystrike. I now have another baby that was piping and the egg had a bunch of baby maggots. I broke the shell and got it out and have removed as many as I could. 1 was in its mouth I couldn't get and another in its nose.
The one I hatched was piping and I put it under a heat lamp in a box with bark and got some of the bark wet for humidity. It hatched and is now alive and well. One of the broodys likes it. But the chick prefers me.
For context 2 broodys have been sitting on a giant nest thats been getting added to most days. They hatched 9 and I hatched a 10th myself yesterday.
Yes its under a lamp
Theres a mallard couple that fly in almost everyday and eat there food and drink there water. Earlier today I read about a guy in Maine who's chickens had a duck come by everyday and that duck gave his flock the AI.
They've all decided to be camera shy tonight. I've noticed one of thems poop has the organ failure smell all 5 got before death. If there any worse in the morning I think ill call the state vet and see what they think.
A second thin shelled egg was laid a few minutes ago and a bunch of hens combs appear to be larger and pale. Is that what swelling of there face looks like?
