I've had this problem also. Every time i would find a nest they would go somewhere else. So when I found a nest in the barn I put an plastic egg (filled with sand to make it heavy) in it. Now they keep laying there and I know where to look.
She was just all huddled up and the other hens were walking on her. She has been setting on the eggs very well and only getting down to eat. She would growl and peck if you got to close. Tonight she was listless and not aggressive at all. No evil eye or anything.

They don't really get much table scraps{I have teenagers} and I only give them a quart of scratch for 30 hens.

It's very unlikely anyone else is feeding them. the neighbors are to far away.
It might be possible to confine them a couple at a time but they might not lay if they are cooped up.
